RAWALPINDI:

A district consumer court on Saturday summoned the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) managing director and its billing officer to respond to a petition against gas outages in winter.

Judge Sohail Nasir directed the two SNGPL officials to appear in the court on December 6 and respond to an application filed by Khalid Mehmood Qureshi, a resident of Sadiqabad in Rawalpindi.

In his application, Qureshi urged the court to direct the supply company to sort out its supply issues for domestic users during the winter season.

The petitioner said it is the duty of the company to provide uninterrupted gas supply to people who pay for the service, but the SNGPL has resorted to unannounced and unscheduled gas loadshedding in different areas of the city.

“I live in Sadiqabad where gas supply is often suspended abruptly, creating problems for residents and causing mental agony for consumers,” the applicant said.

SNGPL, he said in his petition, has repeatedly advertised in newspapers that there would be no cut in gas supply for domestic users during the winter season. The absence of gas in the morning and in the evening is troublesome for schoolchildren and office workers who leave home in the morning, the petition said.
