Khyber Agency: 12 oil tankers cross into Afghanistan

For the second time after the Salala incident, 12 tankers supplying oil for the Nato troops entered Afghanistan via Torkham, said a political administration (PA) official.


The PA official, Mairaj Khan, said that the first batch consisting seven tankers crossed Torkham Pak-Afghan border at 1pm and the second safely reached Afghanistan by 6pm. They were screened at Takhta Baig checkpoint in Jamurd teshil.

The official added that three days back, four oil tankers were returned by the paramilitary troops from Bighyiari checkpoint due to security reasons.

Tribesmen in Jamrud and Landikotal have expressed their concerns about militant attacks on Nato supplies rendering heavy losses to the residents in the agency. They demanded the political administration officials to halt them.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) President of the All Pakistan Oil Tanker Association Nasir Khan was allegedly kidnapped by unidentified persons outside his house in Pabbi on Wednesday.

Shakeel, a police official, said that unidentified persons knocked on Nasir’s house door disguised as guests. Nasir’s son Ali opened the gate and let them in, who told him that were there to meet his father.

While lodging a case, Ali stated that as soon as his father stepped out the gate, the culprits abducted him at gunpoint. The police have started investigations.

On Thursday, the Khyber Transport Union also staged a protest against the Landi Kotal political administration, seeking liabilities from logistic companies.
