KARACHI: Unknown men torched at least two public transport buses in different parts of the city on Thursday night, as violence burgeoned on the eve of a strike by nationalist parties against the new local government act.

Police said unknown miscreants set fire to buses near Safoorah Chowrangi and Karachi University in a bid to spread panic and fear among the residents.

"This has become a norm in the wake of strike calls. It is a tactic to make the strike successful," said a police official while talking to The Express Tribune.

Meanwhile, the Sindh government has deployed additional police force in areas where nationalist parties hold sway.

Earlier in the evening, an explosion was heard in Orangi Town, block 10, area of Karachi on Thursday, reported Express News.

The explosion was reportedly a firecracker exploding in an empty field. There were no reports of damage to life or property.
