Dual nationality: 30 yet to file declaration: ECP

ISLAMABAD: Secretary, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Ishtiak Ahmed Khan has said that 30 lawmakers were yet to file fresh declarations stating that they do not hold dual nationalities.

The ECP had earlier extended the deadline till November 30 for lawmakers to file their declarations.

He added that the commission had referred the cases of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid’s Donia Aziz of and Pakistan Peoples Party’s Arif Aziz Sheikh to the Supreme Court for advice.

Both members contended that they had not acquired foreign nationality rather their parents were foreign citizens; therefore, Article 63 of the Constitution was not applicable to them.
