KARACHI: Sindh is going to participate in international market to show its date production potential in the “Emirates International Date Palm Festival 2012” scheduled to be held from November 26 to December 1 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, United Arab Emirates, said Sindh Board of Investment (SBI) Chairman Zubair Motiwala while talking to media on Monday.

He said that the event will comprise exhibition, seminars and workshops where a large number of date suppliers, growers and companies dealing with date processing will gather to share ideas and cooperate with each other.

The SBI had established a pavilion at the event, where representatives from Pakistan are provided an opportunity to showcase Sindh’s dates at the festival. “The objective behind participation is to promote Pakistani dates and attract importers,” he added.

Motiwala went on to say that the event will definitely bolster Pakistan’s fruit, specifically dates, market in the UAE. He added that growers, participating in the event, will interact with international players in the business.

“Pakistani growers and traders will also witness international marketing and packaging techniques. The event will also provide an opportunity to meet machinery manufacturers and witness actual production process of value-added products,” Motiwala said, adding that the exhibition will also help participants to understand dynamics of international trade of dates, its international value and potential in terms of exports. “During the event we can also get many orders to export the fruit,” he said.

Compliments to honorable Chairman Mr. Motiwala with the vision of international trade, WTO, bilateral trade, and value of organic, Halal food, deserts. I'm sure the initiatives of the honorable Ambassador of UAE for the facilitation, with Pakistan's pavilion at this important product which is Pakistan's forte, and the least known origin in the international market. In the past international companies as Unilever entered date packaging, but didn't proceed. As Mr. Motiwala may agree is to utilitise the existing international retailing chain of Pakistan as Metro AG., and Carrefour with local franchise of Hyperstar will prove to be very important for the launch of Pakistan organic dates under their brand and QC tag., to the international market. With the export of mango to China at Walmart, we can use the platform of local present of the international chain of Metro AG., and Carrefour/Hyperstar in Pakistan with mango and dates as well. These chain have their own network demand for Germany and the EU for tons of dates which are organic food which command a premium being tagged by the brand of Metro, and Carrefour. Being involved with UNCTAD, ITC, Geneva I would also suggest the marketing/export of organic buffalo milk to the UAE market as well, subject to milking process improvement, and feed standardisation we have the best milk buffalo milk for export market to the UAE, as honeybee of Beri very popular in the UAE. I would suggest if all the international chain super markets are invited to participate/visit the Pakistan pavilion with sampling, and availability schedule will make UAE shopping paradise of the world a haven for Pakistan exports. Etihad airlines the national carrier of Abu Dhabi should offer special package offer code world wide and Pakistan to the trade visitors of this important event with hospitality code as well from Etihad airlines.
