Muharram security: Cell phone services to remain suspended today

Cellular services would remain suspended from 6am to 8pm, Interior Minister Rehman Malik announces.

ISLAMABAD:

Interior Minister Rehman Malik announced on Saturday that cellular services would remain suspended from 6am to 8pm today (Sunday) in almost 50 cities of the country for security reasons on the 10th of Muharram.

The minister further said that he had sought an investigation report on Saturday’s blast at a procession in Dera Ismail Khan. “We have been successful in providing security to 9th Muharram processions,” said Malik, after chairing a meeting to review security arrangements.

Malik said the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) was asked to restore phone services in Karachi on Saturday night after processions settled. The interior minister also announced that the ban on motorcycles would be lifted in Islamabad.
