Interior Minister Rehman Malik announced on Saturday that cellular services would remain suspended from 6am to 8pm today (Sunday) in almost 50 cities of the country for security reasons on the 10th of Muharram.
The minister further said that he had sought an investigation report on Saturday’s blast at a procession in Dera Ismail Khan. “We have been successful in providing security to 9th Muharram processions,” said Malik, after chairing a meeting to review security arrangements.
Malik said the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) was asked to restore phone services in Karachi on Saturday night after processions settled. The interior minister also announced that the ban on motorcycles would be lifted in Islamabad.

@Syed A. Mateen: the government will have to fix prices to a certain degree for one person one sim concept to work, because competition constantly results in a variation in call rates. Price fixing is anti-competitive and in turn unfavourable to the consumers. Yes we need solutions - but realistic ones.
haha xD soon we shall have a news '' breathing i banned from 6am to 9pn to avoid any terrorist activities'' :p
BY shutting down the cellular phone service in the country the government has averted much of the expected chaos. However, in certain areas the cellular service provider did not shut down the service despite clear cut instructed of the government and thus incidents in D.I. Khan took place.
Most of the SIM Cards which are unregistered will automatically become void on November 30, 2012 but still we need to make a comprehensive plan to unearth all those SIM Cards which are not owned by any one and yet they are in use for terrorists activities.
The government should formulate a plan where "one person one SIM card" at a time so as to control the law and order situation in the country as well as to reduce the chances of terrorism and suicide attacks to save the precious human lives, public and private properties.
