Security measures: Army deployed in sensitive areas of province

KOHAT: Army personnel have been deployed in Kohat, Hangu, Orakzai and Kurram agencies for Muharram 9 and 10.

A meeting was held at the Commissioner House in Kohat on Friday to review and finalise security measures in Kohat and Hangu districts.

Kohat Commissioner Sahibzada Muhammad Anees said that they have decided to establish Frontier Constabulary check posts over hills to counter any missile attack in the city. The decision has been taken after intelligence reports showed the plausibility of terrorist attacks.

“Special raids will be conducted in sensitive areas,” DCO Kohat said. He added that ambulance and fire brigade services will also be on high alert. All routes leading to Hangu district will be closed until further orders.

The meeting was also attended by DIG Muhammad Imtiaz Shah, district coordination officers, political agents, heads of intelligence agencies and other police officials.

Orakzai Political Agent Khushal Khan said that army officials will also carry out air surveillance in Kurram and Orakzai agencies.

Mobile service in these districts will also be suspended from 6am to 11pm on Muharram 9. Similarly on Muharram 10, the service will remain suspended in Bannu, Charsadda, DI Khan, Lakki Marwat and Nowshera.
