The government on Thursday informed the Senate that hundreds of civil servants embezzled Rs5 billion during the tenure of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) led coalition regime.
In his written reply to the Upper House of the Parliament, Law and Justice Affairs Minister Farooq H Naek said 643 government servants were caught on corruption charges and some Rs1.2 billion recovered from them.
In response to a written question posed by MQM Senator Nasreen Jalil, Naek said criminal proceedings have been initiated against the corrupt officials for the effective recovery of this looted money as per procedures devised under the National Accountability Ordinance 1999.
These corrupt officials belong to all provinces including the federal government and the offices concerned of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) are handling these cases.
NAB arrested 159 civil servants in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 81 in Balochistan, 48 in Punjab and 55 government servants in Sindh on charges of corruption misappropriation, embezzlement and misuse of authority added the reply.

@Haseeb Khan:
The figure u r quoting is total amount of corruption.....by all.....this is revenge of democracy.....
if you know and have proof than you are showing criminal negligence Sir. However, it makes two to make a four.........they cant do without the connivance of their political bosses.
The jobs of all the corrupt Civil Servants should be terminated once it is determined they are proven guilty.
The bureaucrats are eating Pakistan just like cancer that eats a human being.
What Pakistan needs is honest Civil Servants who should not go on duty to sit in the office for 8 hours and do nothing, except minting money but in real sense should serve the masses to solve their problems.
The present Civil Servants are the ones who create more problems for a common man rather than solving the problems.
He has to be joking?. Rs 500o billion is more close to the facts. TIP estimates this at Rs 8500 billion
Not surprised at all.
