SUKKUR/ KARACHI:

The provincial government has announced that all public institutions including schools, colleges and universities will be closed from November 23 to November 25.

Officials from the law enforcement agencies said that Friday, Muharram 8, has been declared a holiday because of the additional security threat this year. All private schools have already announced that they will be closed during this period.

Karachi and Federal University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) announced that they will remain closed from Friday, Muharram 8 to Sunday, Muharram 10. The move was made after a spate of violence across Pakistan on Thursday. FUUAST registrar Prof. Dr Qamarul Haq said on Thursday that the decision was taken to keep the faculty, staff and students safe. Private schools in Sukkur will also remain closed on the three days. Hamid Raza, president of the Association of Private Institutions, Sukkur, said that schools in the city will reopen on Monday.
