Hajj scam: Ex-DG Hajj accused of getting kickbacks

Former ambassador to Saudi Arabia Umer Khan Sherzai on Thursday accused ex-director general (DG) of Hajj Rao Shakeel of receiving kickback in hiring costly residences for pilgrims in 2010. Appearing as prosecution witness in a trial court in Hajj corruption case, the former envoy said Rao Shakeel as DG Hajj hired 87 residences in Mecca away from Harram on exorbitant rent which lacked electricity and water facilities and got thousands of Saudi Riyal as commission. FIA’s special judge Iftikhar Khan after recording statements of Sherzai and three other witnesses put off the hearing till November 29. The court further issued summons to four other prosecution witnesses in the case.
