Discarded left-arm fast-bowler Wahab Riaz inspired NBP with a nine-wicket haul and helped them thrash UBL by an innings and 49 runs on day three of their President’s Trophy eighth-round match at the Pindi Stadium.
UBL started the day on 68 for three – trailing by 148 – but were bundled out for 167 as Riaz added to the four wickets he took in the first-innings.
Meanwhile, ZTBL beat PQA by nine wickets courtesy Sohail Tanvir’s five-for in Islamabad. PQA were bowled out for 257 after resuming the day on 104 for three. mar Amin top-scored with 50 while Asim Kamal scored his first half-century in first-class cricket for over two years. ZTBL raced past the 40-run target in just 6.2 overs.
In another match, KRL’s Shoaib Ahmed Minhas’ 177-run knock all but put PIA out of the running for a place in the final. In a must-win game for the holders, Minhas’ 279-ball knock helped KRL reach 343 in their first-innings. PIA ended the day on 116 for four in their second-innings, a slender lead of 41.
Meanwhile, table toppers SNGPL were in trouble against HBL after ending day three on 145 for five in their second-innings with a lead of just 84. Azeem Ghuman scored 53 while Umar Akmal failed to impress once again after he was dismissed for just 18. Earlier, Ahmed Shahzad’s 94 helped HBL to 293.
Leading wicket-taker Zulfiqar Babar added six to his tally and brought Wapda back into the match against SBP who were 127 for nine while chasing 164. Earlier, Wapda were bundled out for just 118 courtesy Adnan Rasool’s five-wicket haul.
“I’ve been performing well for the last three years but haven’t been given a chance to represent Pakistan which is really depressing,” Babar told The Express Tribune. “The selectors should give a chance to those players who’ve done well in first-class cricket. With experience on my side, I’m confident that I can go to the next level and perform well in international cricket.”
