Police seized 600 kilogrammes of explosives and thousands of detonators, which were being transported in a pickup on Ring Road on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in the jurisdiction of Yakatoot police station.
The driver of the pickup, Rouman, a resident of Zargarabad in Afridiabad, has also been arrested and an FIR has been registered against him.
Talking to The Express Tribune, SHO Yasin Khan said that they stopped a pick up during a routine check and recovered 4,560 dynamites and 9,750 detonators. Rouman was trying to transport the explosives from Bara, Khyber Agency, Khan added.
“We have arrested the man and he is being interrogated at the moment.”
He said that most CD shops and schools in the province are being blown up by dynamites because of their intensity and easy availability.
“Dynamite has enough destructive power to destroy solid rock and it is often used in bomb blasts,” said another official familiar with the matter.
He said that there was a complete ban on the sale and purchase, stocking and transportation of dynamite in the country and police have been ordered to take strict action against violators.
He said that further details would be provided by SP City Asif Iqbal in a press conference.
