The suicide attack on General Post Office (GPO) chowk had left 22 people, including 19 police officials, dead and several others injured. Shahzad, along with two others, was accused of abatement, planning of the attack and helping the suicide bomber.
Shahzad was arrested while the two other accused, Abdul Hameed and Imran Khalil, are still at large.
During the case hearing, the prosecutor also failed to provide any admissible evidence against Shahzad resulting in his acquittal.
According to a police report compiled on January 10, 2008, the blast took place when a lawyers’ procession was about to pass through the Mall Road in Lahore.
A suicide bomber had appeared from near the State Bank of Pakistan building and blew himself up at the police barriers, killing police officials who were deployed for security.

@ishtiaer hussain: Dear Sir, Court has to follow the law and not the public opinion, it is therefore requested, to study the Evidence Act and Cr. PC before commenting on the judiciary. If the court give any decision by not following the applicable law, the superior court immediately set aside the lower court decision. There is need to amend the laws, will from the government, and efficiency from the LEAs. Moreover, as per the constitution the provision of justice is the responsibility of government and courts alone.
does anyone know, a video or a photo is not considered addmissible evidence under current laws of Pakistan and i guess same goes for SMS and email records etc. government failed to provide the changes in laws, and courts are on free roll to release such criminals who taken lives about 50 people! sadly this can happen only in Pakistan, witness privacy and protection and laws should be reviewed and changed according to new evidence possiblities.
These bafoons want witness,one should tell these jokers that don,t waste public money and time just tell them not to arrest terrorists.It is evident that no terrorist action has witness
@sgrr:
Are our judges living in bubbles? Don't they see tens of people killed routinely in bomb blasts and target killings? You are talking about forensic evidence. What a joke? Our judges don't accept testimonies of security officials and they don't admit mobile data as prosecutable evidence against terrorists. Indian courts handed out punishment to Ajmal Kasab to on the basis of mobile phone data and testimonies of Indian police officials. If Indian courts can do it, why our courts can't do it?
@Fed up
Which part of prosecution didn't enter any admissable evidence you didn't understand? The problem is not court its the prosecution and the law makers who have failed us repeatedly or would you like courts to declare guilty just because state says they are?
Why do our judges get such fat salaries, perks and retirement benefits if everything depends on the prosecution.
Ha ha ha!! Look east for inspiration on how to hang terrorists.
alas! our law makers make some law or atleast amend so as Prosecutor's time is not wasted again.....and so of the alleged one!
Spiteful
Great, the NA is passing bills left right and centre to protect Zardari and Gillani but cannot produce a simple anti-terror law that might lead to conviction of criminals. Some democracy.
I dont blame the court. Parliament and politicians have failed the nation by nt making strict anti terror laws like rest of world
the prosecutor also failed to provide any admissible evidence against Shahzad resulting in his acquittal
This is the real situation and an exapmple of inefficiency of our prosecutors, which interalia include our LEAs. However, all blame will be gone to the courts. Alas. The people in power has no time or will to strengthen the forensic evidence collection methods, and amendment in laws accordingly, but ready to blame courts.
What would one expect from them?
No improvement in law & order unless prosecution improves.
Who is the real supporter of terrorists? No explanation required.
Well done courts !! you are making history and your children will suffer.iA
This PPP Government has failed to bring in legislation on Anti Terrorist activities and therefore all the terrorists are going Scot free.
