KARACHI:

The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) has accused the government of attempting to hide its own failings by implementing a ban on motorcycles and cell phones.

Provincial leaders of the JUI-F also called for a joint investigation of the murder of Maulana Shamsuddin, a party leader based in Orangi Town, according to a party statement issued on Tuesday. The JUI-F leaders stated that the killings of SITE Town leader Maulana Abdul Rehman, Maulana Hussain Ahmed in Orangi Town and the attacks on students of Jamia Ahsanul Uloom and Jamia Ashraful Madaris and the murder of Shamsuddin appeared to be part of a series of killings.

They also asked why people protesting over Waziristan and the tribal areas were silent on the killing spree in Karachi. Accusing the government of having a role in the deteriorating security situation in the city, the JUI-F leaders questioned if all law enforcement agencies could not protect citizens, how could they defend the country?
