The president was addressing a youth conference held in the federal capital.
Speaking about the burden of being a leader, the president said good leadership is a result of personal sacrifice.
“This is the path my wife and I followed,” he said.
He also said that leader is not one who thinks he is a leader, but one who is considered so by others.
Speaking about the role of youth in nation building, the president said that as the people of Pakistan, we are fighting a negative state of mind and the youth of this country is a challenge to that mindset.
Commending each and every Pakistani for being patriotic, Zardari said the country is faced with life threatening challenges.
Ushering the conference to a Q&A session, Zardari told his young audience that he, as the president of Pakistan, wants to be questioned by the future leaders as he is always open to criticism.
Responding to a question regarding repatriation of Aafia Siddiqui, the president said the government has asked the lawyer to continue arguing the case. “We don’t have any prisoners exchange treaty with the US and we cannot do anything in that regard but ask her lawyer to stick to her case,” he explained.
On a question about people committing suicide because of poverty, Zardari said his government introduced the Benazir Income Support Program through which deserving Pakistanis get a monthly stipend.

Accept what he said. Politicians should learn how to move forward with consensus. I can predict he will again become President. One likes it or not but this is the only truth. There is not a single politician who can maneuver like him unhurt. Right now some in the media and market were and are against his policies and thus are heavily paid by their masters.
and only 2 questions whart abt killings in karachi ..
We all know you are planted by NATO as an alternative to Musharraf.
Never laughed so much before.
I love Zardari. He is a role model for all the people of this country.
Incidentally this chap doesn't keep arresting people irritating him.he has a big heart..all the abuse heaped upon him and very unlike south Asian politicians ,he doesn't retaliate. That is his greatest ability
Correct. There are others who follow the judges and Taliban and call themselves leaders. A leader is the one who leads people to a path different from the others.
Consummate performance ! Dissimulation and hypocrisy raised to fine art .
Being controversial , we are told , is a proof that one has done something substantial .
What a solace for many villains !
Being INFAMOUS is also Famous. You must be taking lessons from Rehman Malik.
Exactly. Being Mr. 10% was never the easy achievement.
he has sacrifice his wife for the sake of power
Mr. Zardari is the only Political leader in Pakistan at this moment.
so what have u done? Substantial corruption?
@Sara: LOL right on... I agree wholeheartedly.
By this standard he has done a lot
@SM - he belongs to the PPP, im sure you arent aware of the fact that every single thing is a "sacrifice" to members of that particular party. seriously, koi diarrhea se bhi mar jaye, that counts as a sacrifice. tsk. where have you been living?
The only forward thinking president we've had since the mid 90's. Hater's gon' hate. Lets see if your other political parties can fix the streets of Karachi, let alone our Northern areas. Mr. Zardari will historically be remembered for setting forth the motion of true democracy in Pakistan. Don't hate. Vote.
If some wants to become controversial then he should be just like Iranian President (from the west point of view). There must be a cause behind being controversial otherwise no one is going to take notice of such things. All that matter is where is your popularity graph. if it is 50-50 even then it is alright. Under the stated reasons I would like to say that being controversial in such situation, does not enhance your image
$60 Bn though controversial is surely substantial.
Pathetic -- I suspect he's a good example of someone who lacks the skills or ethics to be a true leader and should never make a speech to Pakistani youth about the qualities of leadership.
Would that substantial be anything to do with corruption ? Just asking....
Sadkay jaon main iss LARKAY ki Masoomiyat kay.
'If you have not committed a Crime and acted Innocent, you haven't done anything substantial'
These are the golden words of a non-graduate accidentally becoming President!
yes Mr Zardari you are indeed controversial & will remain so since you did nothing extraordinary for the people of Pakistan in your 5 year term but to guard your self interests. The whole conference was amusing, apart from few youths in the audience. Bilawal was pathetic, as usual speaking in English which majority of Pakistanis don't understand, yet he stands there as a supposed future leader lecturing people as if he has been living here ever since he was born & knows the common man very well (this is the same guy who used to avoid coming in Pakistani youth workshop/community in Oxford, great Pakistani isn't he?). oh and it wasn't live rather an edited transmission by PTV, so many questions from the youth directed towards Zardari in Q&A session were probably not shown.
Yawn!!!
These are solid words without any backup in the form of deeds. Salams
....And you of course are the master of 'Doing Substantial'....O Great Leader!
Mr president; who refuses your's substantial contributions!!
you have not done anything substantial
