Zardari takes notice of PIA emergency landings, calls for inquiry

ISLAMABAD: Taking notice of emergency landings of Pakistan International Airline (PIA) flights, President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday directed the airline and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter and submit a comprehensive report within three days.

The president also directed the concerned authorities to ensure that no such incident takes place in the future.

Spokesperson to the President, Senator Farhatullah Babar said Zardari expressed deep concern over the recurring reports of emergency landings of the PIA aircraft mostly due to “technical reasons.”

Zardari said that the major responsibility of airlines managers was to ensure that the fleet was in perfect condition.

He said that human lives were too precious to risk because of neglect of few people.

Recently, a London-bound PIA airplane developed “technical fault,” forcing it to make an emergency landing at the Karachi airport.

Similarly in September, a Hajj flight with 187 passengers on board made an emergency landing at the Karachi airport after its hydraulic system developed a fault.

The presidential spokesperson said that besides calling for a detailed report, the president has also called for a meeting for a comprehensive briefing on the issue.

Can't make it 'never happen again', it's a machine! and machines have this awful habit of breaking down once in a while ... it's better if President would continue ignoring the plight of the nation rather to make comments that demand super-human technology for PIA.
