LAHORE:

Seven people received injuries when they allegedly tried to stop land grabbers at a Christian graveyard in Colony, Ghazi Road, Shaukat Town.

Subsequent to the incident, a group of locals protested against the alleged attackers, said the Factory Area SHO Mukhtar Alvi.

The protesters demanded the registration of FIRs against the accused, the immediate arrest of those involved in the incident and an assurance by the police that no such incident would happen again.

The police said that the delay in registering an FIR was not on their part, rather the injured people had not come back with their medical reports. SHO Alvi said the FIRs would be registered soon and the accused would be apprehended soon after.

The police said that they had stopped the alleged land grabbers from constructing any wall or building on the land.

According to an intelligence report made available to The Express Tribune, there is tension between some local Christians and Muslims (identified as Deen Muhammad and others of the Qabza group) over the possession of the graveyard.
