Kidnapped colleague: Doctors to observe strike at HMC

"Doctors should take security measures for themselves as the government does not seem interested," says Laiqat Hussain

PESHAWAR: The Provincial Doctors Association (PDA) will suspend all hospital services except for the emergency units at the Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) today (Tuesday) to pressurise the administration and the provincial government to take measures in securing the release of their kidnapped colleague. Addressing the general body meeting at HMC on Monday, PDA President Dr Abdul Qadir criticised the government for ignoring the medical community. He said that the provincial government can send a special team to Karachi to investigate the abduction of a government official but can not do anything for a doctor. Assistant Professor Laiqat Hussain said that doctors should take security measures for themselves as the government does not seem interested. PDA Chairman Dr Shah Sawar said, “We will be observing a complete strike at HMC to show the government that we can take any steps until our demands are fulfilled.”
