Khyber Agency: Two officials abducted in Jamrud

Two minor girls were injured when a stray mortar landed on a house in Yousaf Talab.

Two paramilitary personnel were allegedly kidnapped by unidentified persons in Shah Kas area of Jamrud tehsil on Saturday.


According to an official of the paramilitary troops, Wahid Gul, two khasadar personnel, identified as Sobidar Jan Afzal and Hanif Khan, were on their way to Takhta Baig after visiting their relatives when they went missing around 11:00am. The official added that unidentified gunmen approached their car and kidnapped them.

Khasadar official Jan Afzal was serving as the line officer in Bara tehsil and had been on duty near Takhta Baig check post for the eight months. “We have started investigations but there are no leads on their location nor on the culprits involved,” added the official.

Two children injured when mortar shell hit a house

Two minor girls were injured when a mortar shell landed on a house in Yousaf Talab area of Sipah, Bara tehsil on Saturday.

Roof of the house collapsed, trapping the girls under the debris. They were rushed to a hospital in Peshawar.

A paramilitary official from the area confirmed the news adding that two rooms of the house belonging to Haji Muhammad were destroyed and cattle tied inside the house were killed when the shell struck.

In another incident in Bara, militants fired four rockets on the Fort Slop Camp of security forces, there were no casualties.

600 khasadar officials to be reinstated

Assistant political agent (APA) of Bara subdivision of Khyber Agency, Nasir Khan announced that 600 khasadar personnel who were fired from their services will soon be reinstated.

Addressing a jirga of tribal elders, the sacked personnel and local political leaders in Hayatabad, APA Nasir announced that that the notification will be issued in a few days.

Nasir also assured that the curfew in Bara Bazar will also be lifted in the coming days after clearance from law enforcement agencies, “To lift the curfew in Bara, the tribal elders’ cooperation with the law enforcement agencies is important,” APA said.

More than 600 khasadars left their duties in September 2009, when the Mangal Bagh led Lashkar-e-Islam warned them to discontinue their services to the government. The then political agent of Khyber Agency, Capt (retd) Tariq Hayat, suspended all the khasadar personnel.
