Women’s issues: UK officials call on Maryam Nawaz

LAHORE: British High Commission officials called on PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz Sharif here on Saturday to discuss issues related to the role of women in national development and measures taken by the Punjab government to empower women, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Public Relations. Maryam Sharif said that the Punjab government had enacted laws strengthening women’s property and inheritance rights and introduced a quota for women in government jobs. She said women were taking an active role in politics and a leadership role in resolving women’s issues. She said Pakistani girls were very keen on education. The UK delegation was led by British High Commission Political Consul Susan Hyland. She praised the measures taken by the Punjab government for social development and public welfare.
