LHC: Contempt application moved against Zardari's speech at political rally

LAHORE: Days after President Asif Ali Zardari addressed a public rally in Malakwal, a contempt application was moved before Lahore High Court (LHC) for violating Supreme Court orders.

Munir Ahmad filed the contempt application. Ahmad had previously filed a contempt application  against the president for ignoring an LHC full bench order on holding a political office and conducting political activities in the presidency. That petition is already pending before the LHC.

The applicant’s counsel Muhammad Azhar Siddique stated that in the Supreme Court’s order in the Asghar Khan case and LHC’s order in the case of dual offices of Asif Ali Zardari, the president could not be involved in political activities.

He stated that Zardari’s speech at a political gathering was a clear cut violation, defamation, contempt and disregard of court orders.

Siddique stated that president's political activities would affect the general elections.

He requested the court to initiate contempt proceedings against president Zardari for violating the superior courts orders.

@khalid:

There is no bar in his being Presidency, what the constitution says is, he has to keep himself neutral as being head of a federation...cannot indulge in politics by aligning with any particular party nor go canvassing for any individual of his party.He can do politics as party head only, he has to make that choice...the constitution is very clear.What is not understandable is, the constitution of 1973 has been restored with amendments in consultation with all political parties & passed by the Parliament, & all such controversial issues have been very well detailed in our constitution, yet our own politicians create controversies by not adhering to those relevant articles & its relevant clauses...so, how do you expect to run this country, when MPs are themselves not following the constitutional clauses or laws made by them in Parliament...will it then be not prudent to call Pakistan a " Banana Republic "...jiski lathi uski bhains....

In the light of article 248 of the 1973 constitution of Pakistan Zardari does have full immunity and by some other 1973's constitutional acts does have full access of doing any thing till he is president and no any law can stop him from doing any thing even either wrongful or rightful.... Because we all must never forget it "this is Pakistan"
