Munir Ahmad filed the contempt application. Ahmad had previously filed a contempt application against the president for ignoring an LHC full bench order on holding a political office and conducting political activities in the presidency. That petition is already pending before the LHC.
The applicant’s counsel Muhammad Azhar Siddique stated that in the Supreme Court’s order in the Asghar Khan case and LHC’s order in the case of dual offices of Asif Ali Zardari, the president could not be involved in political activities.
He stated that Zardari’s speech at a political gathering was a clear cut violation, defamation, contempt and disregard of court orders.
Siddique stated that president's political activities would affect the general elections.
He requested the court to initiate contempt proceedings against president Zardari for violating the superior courts orders.

@khalid:
There is no bar in his being Presidency, what the constitution says is, he has to keep himself neutral as being head of a federation...cannot indulge in politics by aligning with any particular party nor go canvassing for any individual of his party.He can do politics as party head only, he has to make that choice...the constitution is very clear.What is not understandable is, the constitution of 1973 has been restored with amendments in consultation with all political parties & passed by the Parliament, & all such controversial issues have been very well detailed in our constitution, yet our own politicians create controversies by not adhering to those relevant articles & its relevant clauses...so, how do you expect to run this country, when MPs are themselves not following the constitutional clauses or laws made by them in Parliament...will it then be not prudent to call Pakistan a " Banana Republic "...jiski lathi uski bhains....
In the light of article 248 of the 1973 constitution of Pakistan Zardari does have full immunity and by some other 1973's constitutional acts does have full access of doing any thing till he is president and no any law can stop him from doing any thing even either wrongful or rightful.... Because we all must never forget it "this is Pakistan"
Pakistan Army officers cannot take part in any kind of political activities and also cannot issue statements having political orientation. Every member of Armed Forces of Pakistan is constitutionally bound to make oath in the following form, ( In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful ) I, ------- do Solemnly swear that I will bear true faith and allegiance to Pakistan and uphold the CONSTITUTION of Islamic Republic of Pakistan which embodies the will of the people, that I will not ENGAGE myself in any political activities whatsoever and that I will honestly and faithfully serve Pakistan in the Pakistan Army as required by and under the law. May Allah Almighty help and guide me ( Ameen ). Likewise the judges are not allowed to indulge in any kind of political activities. At least four times in the history of Pakistan, the constitution had been abrogated and/or held in abeyance by the individuals, who had made an oath to uphold and protect it. The Supreme Court judges, except very few, became ´B´ team of the generals, who were guilty of abrogation, subverting, suspending the constitution and illegally seizure of government. Present Chief Justice and some other sitting judges provided constitutional support to coup d´ tat of former General Pervez Musharraf and authored lengthy judgments in favour of unconstitutional take over and declared the take over inevitable and empowered the usurper to amend the constitution as and when he might have desired. Abrogation, suspension and holding of in abeyance of the constitution has been declared an offence amounting to high treason, but non of the perpetrator or a abettor thereof have been made to face the justice, the Constitution had been abrogated, subverted and/or held in abeyance many times in the history of Pakistan.
@Imran: @Nadir: Only a gen like Mush can be the army chief, president and head of his own political King's party and make all kinds of political decisions, throw the judiciary in detention and yet there is no contempt. A political leader constitutionally elected cannot talk to his voters which are all members of legislature and members of political parties. This is yet another low in the history of LHC which has gone against elected leaders of smaller provinces. Regards, M
@DevilHunterX: It is surprsing example of perverse logic. CJ and COAS are under no law in any country supposed to do and issue political statements. That s ingrained in service rules. Many generals removed from their posts on this basis in other countries. Whereas President post is purely political and he is part of parliament Aql kay nakhun lo
@Ishrat salim: O Bongo kay Sardar, COAS has taken oath not be involved in politics. CJ's only duty is to deliver justice and not political statements over economy, govt making and evrything under the sun on daily basis. You seem to be mentally blid.
@Nadir: Difference between that neither CJ and COAS are members of political parties.
@Ishrat salim:
Calling some one bongey is not a good thing man. Looks like you were taught no manners in childhood.
kia reply dia hai Ishrat Salim bhai
@Nadir:
COAS n CJ speeches hv been presented by vested media as such, however, both are not under any constitutional obligation to the contrary, while the President cannot do so as per constitution.....that is the difference bongey !
CJ can make political statements, COAS can make political statements, however the President does the same...contempt?
