RAWALPINDI:

The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) obtained three days of physical remand on Friday of an alleged smuggler involved in the ephedrine case, saying the accused was to be interrogated about other men involved in the case.

ANF Deputy Director Abid Zulfiqar obtained physical remand of Abdul Khaliq after he was arrested from the Civic Centre in Satellite Town Quetta, saying the accused had allegedly smuggled 9,000 kilogrammes of ephedrine from Balochistan to Iran.

The investigation officer maintained before Magistrate Chaudhry Muhammad Aslam that the arrested man was to be interrogated about others who helped him smuggle the controlled chemical and about where the ephedrine was delivered.

An approver in the ephedrine scam, had revealed earlier to the investigation agency that the chemical was not used for manufacturing medicine and had, in fact, been smuggled to Iran from Karachi and Quetta through exporters.
