Annual dinner: 'Judiciary helped preserve democracy’
SHC Chief Justice says judiciary played a vital role in preserving democratic culture in Pakistan.

The judiciary has played a vital role in protecting and preserving democratic culture in Pakistan, said Sindh High Court (SHC) Chief Justice Mushir Alam.
He was speaking at the annual dinner hosted by the outgoing body of the SHC Bar Association on Thursday. Nevertheless, the judiciary is facing tough resistance, he said.
“Never mind the Supreme Court or high court judges, our judges in district courts, including judicial magistrates, have faced and are still facing a tough time.”
Alam brushed aside accusations that the superior courts were stepping over their authority. He added that under the constitution, the apex court, in particular, must be fair to all.
