Muharram security: 100 CCTV cameras to be installed in Karachi
The processions set to take place on 8, 9 and 10 of Muharram will be monitored with the new cameras.
Sources said that the home department of Sindh issued these directives to police and funds worth Rs50 million were issued for purchase and installation of these cameras.
The installation is expected to begin within two days.
The areas where the cameras will be installed include Teen Hatti Chowk, Jahangir Road, Gurumandar, Numaish, Soldier Bazaar, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Imam Bargah Ali Raza, Taj Complex, Sea Breeze, Nasira School Saddar, Electronics Market, Empress Market, Regal Chowk, Tibet Centre, Mama Parsi School, Radio Pakistan, Jama Cloth Market, DOW Medical college, Denso Hall, Lighthouse, Madison Market, Bolton Market, interior areas of Kharadar, Imambargah Hussainia Irania and other sensitive areas.
Sources say camera increase will not only help in better monitoring of the processions but will help identify and avert any potential incidents of terrorism.
The cameras will be linked to and monitored from the central police office-based control room and KMC command and control room.

More than 150 cameras are installed in Karachi and running , a command and control center is monitoring with the law enforcement agencies and have caught many groups and different people affecting the city. These cameras were not specifically installed for Muharram but they have installed more Camera's to monitor the muharram procession.

Anywhere else in the world when some festival comes it makes the entire nation happy and celebrate, only in pakistan festivals are a problem and people fear of it.
will these camera capture the people who plant the bombs ? or these will just capture the blast and aftermath , like ashura bombing during mustufa kamal's administration ?
Would the media do the public a service by giving the name and location of the company supplying these cameras and equipment and how many have already been installed all over Karachi over the last ten years and at what cost ........ and what final benefit to the people.
Why did the Government wait till 1st of Muharum to do this.Could this not have been done earlier?
The mind boggling question is why dont we have CCTV cameras installed all the time especially in areas with high incidences of crime.
Of course political parties etc that gather funds through extortion and bhatta would be exposed.
I wonder if Karachiites used them as webcams after Muharram. Every year we hear such news of new Cameras installed. Where do the old ones go?
And when any incident will take place, the cameras will be found not working.
What a pity.
