Donkeys better than our cricketers

Letter September 05, 2010
I find it offensive that an animal known for its docility and patience should be likened to such lowly creatures

KARACHI: This is with reference to a news footage frequently on air on several channels in which people are shown labelling three donkeys as Salman Butt, Mohammad Aamir and Mohammad Asif and parading as well as abusing the poor beasts on the streets of the city. I find it unjust and offensive that an animal otherwise known for its docility, perseverance and patience should be likened to such lowly creatures as our national cricket team. None of these cricketers possess the sterling qualities present in a donkey. As the most abused yet hard-working beast of burden, a donkey is far superior to any member of our cricket team which only comprises liars, cheats and greed-mongers who, without batting an eyelid, put the entire nation's respect and repute at stake. Since the animals cannot speak for themselves, I demand on their behalf that they not be compared to our national cricketers.
