Death penalty: France condemns execution of soldier in Pakistan
"This decision constitutes a step backwards in Pakistan's move towards greater respect for human rights," foreign ministry spokesman Philippe Lalliot told reporters.
Mohammad Hussain, condemned to death by a court martial in 2008 for killing a superior over a personal dispute, was hanged Thursday at Mianwali jail in the country's first execution for four years, officials said.
Pakistan has had an unofficial moratorium on executions in recent years, with President Asif Ali Zardari regularly issuing stay orders for condemned prisoners.
Farooq Nazeer, chief of prisons in the central province of Punjab, said the hanging was not a civilian execution and the government did not intervene in military cases.
He said the last execution in Pakistan was in November 2008, soon after the end of military rule.

To all those who are concurring with this execution please read this independent report first: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-20337183 It appears Pakistan is not following its constitution properly. The facts clearly show that President Zardari is a puppet of Gen Kayani who is told what to do. Had this hanged person been an ordinary civilian then there would have been clemency but not for this soldier.

Oh I forgot the shinning example of human rights that is India, hypocrisy much, it is india that has been occupying Kashmir not Pakistan, how abt the recent killing and torturing of dalits in India? been only couple of weeks at most and I can cite example after example, so before preaching why don't you take your advise and fix your house first. You can start with Haryana.
FRANCE............. good you also got chance to speak and you have not seen many innocent kids dies in Drown attacks that time you remains silent and not condemns against America who is the head of terrorism; when civilian was killed that time their was violation of human rights, you people and Indian don't spoke and it is better that now also do your own business. Aafia Siddique you forgot her?????????? she is still there and daily human rights are being violated by torching her and by sexual abuse. First do something for her and then about execution.
@Shams Zaman: You guys have the temerity to bark and tell the world what is wrong with other countries when your own house is not in order. You talked about the violations of rights of the Rohingyas in Myanmar but you forget the rights of the people of Bangladesh, Pakistan occupied Kashmir (where, unlike in the Indian part, there is absolutely no transparency and freedom), Baluchistan, Waziristan, etc. These are examples of the blatant trampling of human rights, not to mention the persecution and killings of minorities, children (whose heads are targets of pointed guns) if they want to go to school, etc. Pakistan has never been an example to emulate as far tolerance and respecting of human rights are concerned, and it is no wonder that there were massive protests in New York from Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and others against Pakistan's rotational membership in the UN Human Rights Council for a three-year period.

When was the last time you put anything to proper fair vote in Pakistan? You banned Ahmedi's using vote? Hate to tell you, but its Pakistan thats asking France's help for GSP+. Perhaps if you all pay your taxes,, Pak may not need GSP+.
News sources are saying it is first in 4 years. However according to BBC Sixteen executions were carried out between the Pakistan People's Party coming to power in March 2008 and December of that year (Dec of 2008). It is almost 4 years since then. So I guess there were no executions after Dec 2008.

We can put that to vote in pak and see how many wants france vote. France bans hijab which is violation of human rights, but its ok cuz France say it an't so. Try respecting other people's laws and culture for a change. Its not like France has a stellar history when it comes to human rights.
If this man murdered someone that is violation of human rights. Hanging the murderer is plain and essential justice, which differentiates humans from animals.

People will never be able to agree whether such punishments are good or bad, anywhere in the world, even amongst themselves. I'd be surprised if they could even truly have an opinion they don't say out loud that isn't a little torn. It's a human thing. The only real certainty is that the idea of a wrongly convicted and innocent person ends up in that position is enough to pull back and hesitate. It easily happens, too. Cops don't like being told they're wrong or to admit they're wrong. They're more likely to let someone get executed than to come to terms with the fact they may have screwed up and ruined a person's life.
Why should France poke her nose in the internal affairs of another country? I support international interference only in case of gross human rights violations, not individual cases. US execution rate in third in the world. I support international condemnation when people are killed because of blasphemy.
I really urge Pakistan to execute known killers so in the future these fanatics will think hard before they target innocent civilians.

France talking about death penalty, the same france which is responsible for blood in libya and now Syria, how about not interfering in internal matters or another country France? @Alaa Qiadat: Absolutely.. Khoon ka badla khoon. BUT. Only & Only when it is proved beyond any reasonable doubt that the convict has carried out the crime and all efforts for khoon baha have expired. France has its handfull with its own issues so they should keep their hands in their pockets.

Very quick to condemn a just execution but fails to condemn civilian deaths in drones and missiles.
The France should be told to mind their own business. And if they feel so offended by capital punishment then they should be asked to tell the murderers to bring back the victims their brutal killings. Who has devised these imprudent human rights??? Where were these human rights nice the victim was being killed?? My sympathies are with the victims and not the brutal killers.
So the one who got murdered does not have any human right but the one who has been murdered has human rights. This type human right logic is making world sick...
