Tax on int’l calls: LHC extends stay till Nov 30

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday extended a stay order, till November 30, on a new tax levied by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority on incoming international telephone calls.

The judge also allowed overseas Pakistanis to become a party in the case. Saad Saleem has filed the petition on behalf of overseas Pakistanis. He says after the levy of the tax overseas Pakistanis were paying four times the charges they previously used to pay.

A private company Brain Telecommunications has filed the main petition, challenging the levy of the additional tax.
