"The prime minister is not going to attend the summit," Syed Masud Khundoker, a director-general in Bangladesh's foreign ministry, told AFP.
An official in Hasina's office, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the prime minister would not be joining the eight-nation summit on November 22, and said Foreign Minister Dipu Moni would instead represent Bangladesh.
Neither official explained Hasina's decision not to attend.
Pakistan's Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani had issued the invitation to Hasina in person last Friday on a rare visit to Bangladesh by a senior Pakistani.
Relations between the two sides remain extremely delicate with Moni asking Rabbani last week for Pakistan to apologise for war crimes committed by the army. Hasina's government says up to three million people were killed in the conflict.
The Daily Star, a Dhaka-based newspaper, said that policy advisers had told Hasina that it would be unwise to visit Pakistan unless Islamabad offered a formal apology to Dhaka for what it regards as a "genocide".
Ties have been particularly strained since Hasina's Awami League party came to power in 2009.
However Hasina did visit Pakistan in 1999 in her first stint in office, in a bid to ease escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
The summit of the D-8 group of developing nations in Islamabad is due to include representatives from six other nations, including Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria and Turkey.
The meeting begins on November 19 with leaders due to attend its finale on November 22.

@Gratgy: we will still do it without them in the end im sure
@Raj - USA: Dear Raj, I always look for your comments. I have great appreciation for your this comment as you have analysed the problem very well. Yes Bengalis are much more enlightened lot and progressive. They hate dogma and sectarian approach towards life. I firmly beleive they are much better Muslims then an average.
The lady should respect her people more and work on improving the conditions in the textile factories which are responsible for majority of export earnings. Grandstanding is deflecting attention from more serious matters.

@indian: we took Pakistan from british, not from hindus. Go read history again.
@Azeem: It is a great success of Pakistan establishment that it has put the entire country on denial mode and conspiracy theory mode. Most of the people are always denying the facts that the world accepts. Pakistan even after 42 years refuses to accept the fact that it was the politics of leaders of Pakistan that pushed the people and politicians of Bangladesh out of Pakistan. It is sad, this denial mode will only bring even more disaster.
even western media reports that india bankrolled her political campaign. the conspiracy involving her father and india known was also proven as true its impossible to kill 3 million people in 6 months, it took hitler some 8 years to kill 6 million jews.
just as we saw in Libya,where western powers exploited tribal differences amongst arabs, india exploited differences and resentment against a dictator to split up pakistan.
Breaking up an arab speaking nation on tribal affilations is hard, but its easy to split two communities 10000s of miles apart
@Randomstranger: "It is quite obvious, that this is a political stunt of Mrs.Hasina. I bet elections are approaching fast in Bangladesh." You would be right if the rival party shared the same anti-Pakistan sentiments and Sheikh Hasina would be trying to outscore her rival. But the other begum is staunchly pro-Pakistan. So, demanding an apology from Pakistan robs her of votes she might have got from some belonging to the other camp. @Asif Khan from India: "The criticism of the Mukti Bahini is also not justified, considering that this movement was created as a reaction to the injustice perceived by the Bengalis for 24 years. " Din's Law in action: "Every provocation invites a disproportionately large retaliation."
It is quite obvious, that this is a political stunt of Mrs.Hasina. I bet elections are approaching fast in Bangladesh.
@USMAN786: So whose fault is this?
In the General Elections of 1970, Shaikh Mujibur Rehman's Awami League Party won absolute majority (160 out of 300 seats) and should have been sworn in as PM of Pakistan. But swollen-headed Bhutto couldn't accept a Bengali as a PM as probably he had superiority complex in favour of Western Pakistanis like Punjabis and Sindhis as against Bengalis. That is how he twisted Yahya's arm by throwing temper tantrums. The rest in history! So primarily, the ego of Western Pakistanis caused their nation to split. Had Yahya allowed Shaikh Mujib to be sworn in telling Bhutto to go jump into a lake, Pakistan might be united till now. But destiny had something else in mind!!
@Ahmed: "If the Hindus were coming from India or any other Hassina (not really) would have gone out personally to welcome them but Rohinga are Muslims that she has no sympathy for them and neither does she care for them. Coming to Pakistan for summit where India is not part of the summit is reason for her reluctance. Sheikh family is the only Bengali family whose Qibla in new Dehli. Most Bengali Muslims are proud and irrespective of status rich and poor would never bow down to anybody but Sheikhs has reduced Bangladesh into a status worse Bhutan then just like Mujib did."
That's the product of a perverted logic. Islam is not a glue and because your are the "land of the pure", it does not mean that other Muslim nations should toe your line (which is usually a destructive one). I don't think you and your fellow readers would dare raise your voice against the Saudis or Iranians refusing to visit your country. What can you do if some foreign leader finds it not expedient to visit your country? What has this to do with Hindus or Jews or Muslims? It is pure and simple expedience. Why is also the family of Sheikh Mujib being dragged into this? And, Sir, be honest: have you thought of the very heinous and brutal war crimes committed by your army against Bangladeshis. The criticism of the Mukti Bahini is also not justified, considering that this movement was created as a reaction to the injustice perceived by the Bengalis for 24 years. Bengalis rebelled and the genocidal crackdown on Bengalis added a strong momentum to the movement's growth. The analogy with Bhutan is absurd: Bhutan, often described as Shangri-la (a paradise) is known for its tranquility, peace and tolerance. Pakistan has a very, very long way to go before it can achieve the status of Bhutan which is the world's best kept secret as far as tourism is concerned. Foreign tourists, particularly from the West, gladly take high-priced tourism packages. Just ask yourself: how many Western tourists ever like to set their foot on Pakistani soil? Pakistan is mentioned in almost all the world travel advisories as a destination that should be avoided! Terrorism, and not the rule of law, is the dominating force in Pakistan.
Madam, how about the bangaldesh armies and civilians brutality on chakmas and hindu/buddishts all across bangaadesh, approximately 2 million chakmas laid down their life fighting for and indpendance chittagong.
@Nadir: And?
Why are folks asking the PM to apologize for the Mukti Bahini? The Mukti Bahini were non-state actors. So how can the state apologize on their behalf?
Bangladesh is irrelevant. It's not an official invitation by Pak Gov. its a G8 summit which Pak happens to be hosting. Bangla can't even take an honorable stance on the Rohingya (very much like Bengalis) that are being killed at tis very moment. Hassina's government is gutless. She hasn't even spoken out in support for her countrymen being harassed and murdered in Assam. She should ask for apologies all around it seems cause Bengalis are at the receiving end everywhere (except Pakistan) - at the moment it seems that Indians (Assamese) and Burmese are killing her kith and kin but she doesn't have the spine to ask them stop killing or protect her people let alone an apology. Stay at home Hassina 'cause nobody really cares if you come or go.
@jerseybb: "What a sad state of affairs, now a country of the stature of Bangladesh would shun visits to Pakistan, " Indeed what a sad state of affairs! First, Putin. Then, his deputy. Now, Sheikh Hassina. All shunning Pakistan. And, all that just in the last few weeks! Of course there is hardly any country, including China, which stands in line to host Pakistan! Latest news from Delhi: Indian government is advising Pakistan to ask Rehman not to pack his bags for his visit to Delhi as there will be no one available to meet him. But we at least sent you Nitish Kumar! That should count for a little brownie! Pakistan is the only country in the world which pressured an American President (Clinton) to pay it a visit (to balance his visit to India) so he could read the riot act to the nation of Pakistan on its own airwaves in the brief amount of time he spent there (four hours)! Imagine!
Head of State of the following countries either postponed or by passed Pakistan in last one years: Russia, Canada, India, Australia, Bangladesh, South Africa, US, France, Germany, Brazil. Simple message from the world community to Pakistan Clean up your act. Either you are with us or against us. If Pakistan choose to be against us than why complain. Each decision has its consequences. Each missed visit is equal to missed investment opportunity and jobs too.
who investigated about atroceties commited by mukti bahni and pak army ?
@Renegade:
Why? Why don’t Pakistan and Saudi Arabia open doors for the Umma of which many are very poor and deserving?
@Pro Truth:
India did not attack Bengalis, Pakistan did. No harm in having good relations with a neighbour.
@Muhammad Yaqub:
Why? We went and attacked them, and killed and raped them in hundreds and thousands; they had a right to defend. They did not come over and attack us.
@Ashraf P:
A formal apology is followed by monetary rumeneration... Hence it will hurt Pakistan.. Especially considering we weren't the only ones at fault during the war. The past should be forgotten by both nations so that we can make efforts towards progress!
If the Hindus were coming from India or any other Hassina (not really) would have gone out personally to welcome them but Rohinga are Muslims that she has no sympathy for them and neither does she care for them. Coming to Pakistan for summit where India is not part of the summit is reason for her reluctance. Sheikh family is the only Bengali family whose Qibla in new Dehli. Most Bengali Muslims are proud and irrespective of status rich and poor would never bow down to anybody but Sheikhs has reduced Bangladesh into a status worse Bhutan then just like Mujib did.
@Khattak: "otherwise we will sypport West Indies in their tour of Bangladesh" - That will surely terrify the Bangladeshis and give them sleepless nights!
There is a common saying "known enemy is much better than unknown one" . Bangladeshis helped dividing the country , but later when Pakistani leaders rejected Bengali's mother tongue which is much more rich and ancient than Paki's language, then Bengalis realized the religion trap .Later These very same Bengalis picked up national anthem written by Tagore .I personally believe it was Bengalis destiny , sorry if it hurts someone . So better keep a distance from pakistan and continue developing the country stay away from radicals and extremists which is a common thing in Islamic world.
@Muhammad Yaqub: Lets not forget that It was the same Bangladeshis who chose to be part of Pakistan and remained so for the next 24 years .. Then one wonders why they chose later on to part ways .. It was our own policies that kicked and pushed them out of our country and no one but only our own political and military leaders are to be held responsible for it who deliberately chose to ignore their need and indulge in the exploitations. Just like what is happening in KPK/FATA or Balochistan from past many years .. our center of power has always been from only one province and their our so called leaders from the area chose to ignore our problems if its not harming them. All those who're saying that We have already apologized must know that Musharraf only said that He regretted what has happened but chose not to render an apology. Giving an apology doesn't harm any one and shows one's own maturity.
It appears that this summit in Pakistan is fixed :-D
@debal:
The Indian name comes from River Indus that flows in current day Pakistan and the civilization of Indus Valley. The earliest known civilization from the subcontinent started from Bolan area of Balochistan, Pakistan who settled down around Indus river later on and thus giving this area the name of India. There are two facts that cannot be ignored when one is talking about history of the region, There are dozens of different ethnic and linguistic groups in the area who are independent from each other and they were ruled by their own leaders in different independent states at different points in the history. Some people think every one else belong to current Indian state and were always like that which is wrong.
In urdu they say...."Kia piddi kia piddi ka shorba" fits Bengalis :)
@Saud Usmani: haha..india threw you out....
i think there is an underlying emotion that if pakistan apologizes to bangladesh then its apologizing to india and india did the right thing in creating bangladesh.which even in face of armageddon pakistan wont do.
These folks are stuck in the past.
as a bangladeshi i would like to ask every pakistani here why you are not taking your bihari brothers from the refugee camp in bangladesh . For 40 years they are languishing in the camp, life so misrable there u can not imagine, these biharis are urdu speakers, they fight with pakistan army shoulder to shoulder againist bengalis. and punjabi army told them after the war they will be rewarded.
hmm not a big deal if Pakistan will add itself into the list of countries who have made apologies for the wrongs the previous leadership had done , like Japan seeks apology from Korea for her war time aggression, or Vatican did the same by apologising non-Catholics for Catholics brutality. Pakistan is not in a position to cater all sort of hostility towards her from other regional countries when she is already juggling with lot many other threats both internally and externally , its time that Pakistan should revamp her foreign policy and extend hand of friendship to those countries too where she had apprehension in past , like making a fresh move in bilateral relationship with Russia who in past had remain a key country in agitating Afghanistan against Pakistan is a positive move . ar yarr pakistan ki us wakt ki qayadat ny zulum tu kiya hi hai is ma koi shaq nai hai .. west pakistan ny east pakistan ko apni colony smj k hi treat kiya. maffi mangny say agr bangledesh ki aprrehension dour hoti hain tu its good , after all we have recognised her as sovereign state
May be Sheikh Haseena Wajid should apologise to Pakistan first for her father's treason.
Unfortunately, Pakistan has not got the point correct. Bangladesh would have forgotten the massacre of its Bangladeshis had Pakistan corrected itself after the creation of Bangladesh. ISI, JI, LeT, JuD and many such organizations started to promote religious extremism and terror activities in Bangladesh. Bangladeshis are literate and even their woman are very entrepreneurial. They resent Pakistan's activities in promoting terror and trying to make Bangladesh an intolerant country with extremist mindset. This is the same thing that is happening in Afghanistan also. Pakistan can never have good relations with any country, be they muslim or non-muslim country, until they disband all terror groups within Pakistan and stop using religion to justify anything and everything bad and vice. Few months ago, I wrote in another comment that I have heard of a Bangladeshi family where they have Muslim, Hindu and Christian son-in laws, all in one family, and none have changed their religion or name. Pakistanis, unfortunately can never understand. They shall still try to conquer everyone else through terror activities. They are proud to loose 45,000 lives and incur $80 billion cost to their economy just to protect OBL and other terror groups. Yet Pakistan shall keep blaming others for all their problems. Pakistan's relationship with Bangladesh foretells their future relationship with Afghanistan. But, Pakistanis will still live in their own dream world of tribal unity (Pashtun unity) or one religion even when there is so much hatred amongst different sects of the same religion.
racists are no welcomed!
They should apologies even Pakistan should bring back biharis who are still living in camps because of supporting west Pakistan atleast they got the guts to ask for it anyways Bangladesh doing far far better than Pakistan in every it's Pakistan need to learn something from them and ask for favors it's ground realities.
I think this apology 'thingie' is more personal for the Prime Minister, her father was killed by the B'desh army, she is frustrated and have created this millions of Bangladeshi killed during the war(does she know how many zeroes are there in a million). It was not easy for neither Pakistan or Bangldesh. It is time to move on, it is good for both.
with statements like this ordinary pakistani who is not proud of wht happened in 1971 also says "whatever".
Due to their sick behavior they got separated (obviously with help of India) & again they are behaving in similar way. Decades have been past but their perceptions are not changed. Japan was bombed by US but instead of keeping grudges against US they represented their nation in every platform not only outside US but also within US. As a result Japanese vehicles are widely used in US. Similarly in case of Pakistan; when Pakistanis can forgot the entire massacre by Indians in 1947 & promote trade with India then why can’t this Bengali lady. Did we ask for their official apology? Answer is “NO” because Pakistan has learnt that best policy is to move forward & forget bitter past.
Well Well, SH's party AL has close relationship and understanding with its bigger neighbor so they would always want to please them, 2. they have a big part of their vote bank which hates PK so they dont want to ruin that too as elections will come by, 3. in a nation's life, maturity comes after long and BD is not ready as yet, 4. they, AL lives on this taht we killed millions of BDeshies so they want to keep it that way, 5. cricket did try to help ease the tension while PK supporting their candidate for the top slot at the ICC but i think this will be short lived, 6. PK should focus on better things in life rather than talking about this tension as it will take at least another 25 years for things to be normal, 7. this hatred will only pave way for more alienation of BD from rest of the Islamic world especially in the latest episode of Burma, which is fine as AL in BD wants to give this message that they are secular, so let be it.
Due to their sick behavior they got separated (obviously with help of India) & again they are behaving in similar way. Decades have been past but their perceptions are not changed. Japan was bombed by US but instead of keeping grudges against US they represented their nation in every platform not only outside US (to compete them) but also within US. As a result Japanese vehicles are widely used in US. Similarly in case of Pakistan; when Pakistanis can forgot the entire massacre by Indians in 1947 & promote trade with India then why can’t this Bengali lady forget past. Did we ask from India an official apology before opening trade? Answer is “NO” because Pakistan has learnt that best policy is to move forward & forget bitter past.
@Saud Usmani
@Something Clever We didn’t steal PAKISTAN from INDIANS we took our share from BRITONS
And BRITONS stole it from whom? If your answer is 'from Mughals'; then question arises, from whom the Mughals stole, and so on. The answer will still be Indians.
Sharing stolen properties put both of you in the same bracket.
It's important that perpetuators of genocide be brought to book. There are many people in Pakistan who have a direct role in the genocide of Bengalis still walking freely. Haskins has taken a sensible stance. Now Pakistan owe up? I don't think so considering the quality of its political and military class.
@Dr. Shafique: I beg to differ with your opinion on religion as a binding force or even a tearing apart force. What has kept us so strong and untouchable till now is the mere fact that we have the mulla mentality lurking somewhere in us and no matter what we will strike- that is physically. The only problem is MUSLIMS DONOT KNOW HOW TO FIGHT THE MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL WAR. This is what we are bombarded with right now.
Sheikh Hasina is just another small pawn in the vast game of this same war of Muslims against Muslims. Unfortunately we love to believe what we want to believe- and that is that Muslims are a fallen nation now and cannot get up. They have been overtaken. Religion has no importance.
Every other nation on this planet is fighting a basic religious war- not a war based on countries. Everyone wants to see their religion on the top and fulfill some dumb prophecies(not talking about Islam here) But if all of us a presented with different problems of severe nature - what will we end up doing. We have set up a beautiful screen where we are showing people that we know how to dig up the past- why will not other governments make it difficult for us- we have a no vision government!!!!!!!!
Pakistani awaam are not idiots. I have not lived a long time and definitely not since birth in Pakistan- but even I can vouch that it is easy to brainwash an illiterate person anywhere in the world, not just Pakistan. But it is highly impossible to brainwash a logical Pakistani (they do not have to be educated for that- just a bit of common sense required).
Even Mujib ur Rehman visited Pakistan for the Islamic summit.....I dont see any harm for her to visit Pakistan
@VINOD:You should read one of Sam Manekshaw's address. He was asked by Indra Ghandi to get into East Pakistan much before the fall of Dhaka. It was well Planned by the Indian's.
What a sad state of affairs, now a country of the stature of Bangladesh would shun visits to Pakistan,
I think she should get a reality check. No one cares about her or what she wants, not even a major portion of her own people. If I remember correctly her own family was killed by her own people (army), even the dog and the parrot - and had nothing to do with Pakistan, ISI or India or anyone else. She survived because she was out of country - should Pakistan apologize for that too? Most of the 3 million people killed were punjabis and non-bengalis and were killed by mukti bahni.
@Renegade:
There is something fundamentally wrong in your perception of world politics. You should know by now, 40 years after Bangladesh's birth as a new nation, that religion is not a glue that can hold nations together. Each nation has its own geopolitical, economic and cultural interests to define -- regardless of religion. It is this fatal and fallacious way of thinking that has caused untold human tragedy -- it's already happening in the Arab world where, despite being Muslim, they are killing each other -- not only to the world but also to Pakistan itself. Unless you change your mindset and try to see the world from someone else's perspective, you will see gloom and darkness around you; you will see an enemy in every corner of the world. Your critical thinking should start from the day you are born and from the time you are given your first textbook in the kindergarten so that you can discriminate fact from fiction, right from the wrong and good from evil. Alas, Pakistanis are born with a brainwashed mentality. This has got to change in the interest of the nation. Religion is a good thing, but it can become a terrible obsession if distorted and thrust upon others to follow your diktat.
APOLOGY...NOT IN 1000 YEARS!!!!!!
@VINOD: And why do you think your knowledge of history is sooo clear and true.... lol....
Atrocities were commited by both sides....Bengalis are an epitome of hypocriy..They even killed their own father of nation,Mujib,..It will be a shame if Pakistan announces a formal apology..
She should apologize as well for the large scale brutal massacre, tyranny, loot, plunder, and eviction unleashed on non-Bengalis (mostly Biharis) after the creation of Bangladesh.
Forget about it Bangladesh. What is apology by the way? ;)
@Something Clever: Sorry to see your knowledge about sub-continent partition. Pakistan and India both were created at the same time from the British India under a pre-agreed formula. Pakistan did not separate from India for your information.
@Born Political: World is very much aware as to how much happy you are.
BD must also apologize for the Genocide of Pujabi's & Bihari's. The East Bengal Regiment carried out a Massacre of its Non-Bengali Offrs & men.
This is a matter for negotiations between Pakistan and Bangladesh. They cannot throw a no ball out of the blue.Nothing would happen if Bangladesh does not attend.
After very carefully going through all the comments I sincerely feel that most of the people in Pakistan are not fully aware of the happenings leading to creation of Bangladesh. May be that the people have been deliberately miss led and kept away from the truth Or the truth has been buried deep in the maze of propaganda/ hysteria. It is sad to see most of the commentators blaming people of Bangladesh for the genocide. Any way Bangladesh is free from the clutches of fundamentalists and quietly progressing without hatred and bloodshed under a civil democratic system.
@Sam.. U seems to be a perfect ZAid Hamid student.
@ indian
@Thor: what about u(pakistan) stole part of our(india) country?
=============================================
Funny words. When you feel it. We always rule on the part where you live before english arival.
@Renegade and Pakistan should apologize for not protecting its Shia muslims. Shoundn't it ?
@indian:
Pakistan has never been a part of India. Its not us who carved it out, Its you who made Pakistan
@Renegade: As you should be for not opening your gates to those Pakistani Muslims languishing in Refugee camps in Bangladesh from 1971 to date.
You not only owe an apology but need to prosecute your military leaders involved - paying compensation to the victims of this genocide would also be appropriate. Further - all of your school textbooks should be modified to reflect the real reasons/facts behind the separation and here's a good start - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BangladeshLiberationWar .
Hahaha .. best revenge against Bangladesh ... @Khattak "...otherwise we will sypport West Indies in their tour of Bangladesh." +100
@Thor: Stealing means taking away what belongs to you. Are you living in Bangladesh desh now? If not how can you accuse them of stealing?
@Saim Baig
We’ve already apologized for our mistakes that we made in 1971.
I see. So, 'massacre' = 'mistake'.
Price of everything has gone up, save 'English'.
Pakistani govt should collect each and every Bangladeshi from our country and send them back where they come from we will reduce 50% of crimes off our streets these crimes include drugs prostitution gangwar forged currency professional beggars you name it and they are in to it get rid of them for once and for all this will teach her a lesson.
The Bengalis first divided United India in 1947 (Considering majority of Muslims leaders were Bengalis). Then they splitted ways with Pakistanis, also. They should apologise first from India then from Pakistan, otherwise we will sypport West Indies in their tour of Bangladesh.
Thank you for kicking us when we are down as a nation. In general, what more you expect from bengalis, most of them hate Pakistan.
They also blocked Pakistanis export benefits to EU. Shoeing their true colors.
Bangladesh now is a satellite state of India. And Hasina Wajid is Indian implanted PM of Bangladesh.
Hahahaha
Haha
@Saim Baig: Could you please edify me on when Pakistan tendered a formal apology to Bangladesh for our army's brutal handling of the Bengali masses in 1971?
Another win for India and loss to Pakistan on diplomatic front. We have lost our so called twin brother Afghanistan on west border and they are now shelling on us as a note of thanks for what we have done for them in the last 25 years keeping millions of refuge and many of them now given (legal / illegal) nationality. Things not going great for Pakistan with nuts heading state of affairs. Not much comments for BD as they should worry abt millions living in bad state than accepting every order from the bosses sitting in Dehli. Exports going up slightly and Takka gaining some value does not make any difference unless effect trikle downs to poor. No complains to India, they are doing what a sensible gov should do to protect its own interest.
@Something Clever, "India" could not decide at that time if they have to liberate Pak, it was Great Britain who bowed before Jinnah's demand. Thankful to him, We are way happy here in Pak and please convey that to other indian friends.
@Something Clever
@Thor: Yeah, that line of commentary sounds fun. I guess that means Pakistan has to apologize to India.
He just didn't think it through. But that's a matter of fact. The fiction is, 'Pakistan owes no appology to any body, while every body owes an appology to Pakistan.'
Is she willing to offer one for the atrocities committed by mukti bahni?
Given its track record of interference in other countries, toying with the issues of their national security, even destroying the social fiber of some, and carrying out atrocities against various peoples, Pakistan is increasingly becoming the "North Korea" of South Asia. It is not liked by any country in the world, including the so called "brotherly" countries, which need it only for their proxy. The country has done everything to self destruct itself.
Madam Hasina! Noone will miss you. Cheers!
Pakistan needs not to apologized to anyone. Even Pakistan and India have better relationship. Get over it madam. We saw your open heart during the Burma crisis when you send people back to die....so no need to show that you have a big heart... A please it was a WAR...not a target killing in karachi....
@Something Clever, Nope, its even funnier dude, India got to apologize.
She is following the footsteps of her mentor; they have already done the same a month earlier! Friends like Hamid Karzai and you are less likely to be beneficial for us anymore. Nevertheless, thank you for not coming!
In a related story PLO and Jordan refused to attend the meeting because Pakistan refused to apologize for role of Zia ul Haq in the genocide of Palestinians people in Sept 1970 in Jordan (Also known as Black September)
The visionary leaders are not held hostage to past .. they look into the future madam Prime Minister. You are welcome anytime.
I thought this phrase "The nation is intelligent except when it comes to dealing with Pakistan" only applies to India. Well, Bangladesh is in the same league.
Dear PM, No need to come. Be there
@Muhammad Yaqub: Kuchh dil ki ameeri dikhaiye, bhaisahab!
@Something Clever We didn't steal PAKISTAN from INDIANS we took our share from BRITONS
It seems Sheikh Hasina has put her personal preference before Bangladesh's. It is in interest of both people to move forward and her visit would have encouraged the Govt. of Pakistan to think seriously about the apology.
I lost quite a large number of relatives and friends in then East Pakistan now Bangladesh. In most cases they were hacked to death by the Bengalis, and some by the Indian forces attack, helped and supported by Bengalis. My family never received an apology from the Bangladeshi govt or Hasina begum. Should this apology not be a two way process. And if she thinks that Pakistan need to apologise than why did she and her forces brutally put down the revolt in her own tenure as President and than tried a whole lot of people as traitors. Double standards. One for me and other for those I don't get on with.
You look cute but not that much mam , chill out
The series of comments shows that chauvinist in our country have not learnt any lessons. Our countrymen committed crimes amounting to genocide and still angry on victims. This indicates Other nationalities in Pakistan have to go through same genocide before they get their rights in Pakistan.
Bangladesh should be careful. Something like this could trigger the GHQ driven foreign policy of Pakistan to unleash its "non-state-actors" (read terrorists) like it has done on the rest of the world.
one word.... Dream on
Forget the apology from PK, Bangladesh should be prosecuted for not opening its doors to Burmese Muslims in the time of need ....
Bangladesh are following a dangerous policy, they will be alienated from Muslim countries ...
Time to think hard, the policy makers of Bangladesh .......
@something Clever The British should apologize to all of us now, the bangladesh, india and Pakistan.
Vienna,November 13,2012 I understand Sheikh Hasina´s position. It is worth pointing out Pakistan´s mentor friend Higher than Himalayas Deeper than the Indian Ocean China demanded apology from Japan.Pakistan should understand how to be rational.Bangladesh can look after itself.Pakistan has yet to stabilize and harmonize conflicting interests in Pakistan itself. Taravadu Taranga Trust for Media Monitoring TTTMM India --Kulamarva Balakrishna
@Something Clever: You're too clever for any of such comment.
Well well, Pakistan should have lost against Bangladesh in the Asian Cup!
It is time to put the past behind. An apology will not ruin Pakistan.
Bengali's are full of hate.. since FOREVER! :/
@Xtreme: Yes but the product most easily exported from Bangladesh is Cheap Human Labour ...unfortunatly .
Well we wish them well. We don't want to know them now. They chose to seperate and so be it!!!!
@Thor: what about u(pakistan) stole part of our(india) country?
@Something Clever
And India to Asia, and Asia to China, and finally, 6.5 Billion apologizing to Adam.
GET LIFE!!! or GROW UP!!!
We must look Bangladesh in the EYE!
@Thor: Yeah, that line of commentary sounds fun. I guess that means Pakistan has to apologize to India.
Are we dependent on Bangladesh for anything??
Genocide? About how they apologize for stealing a part of out country
Good thank you for not coming.
they have become our rival in textiles and our industrialist want to go there
We've already apologized for our mistakes that we made in 1971. If you want us to say it again just to Humiliate us, You can forget it Madam.
Its not bilatral invitation anyway, its D-8 summit. Bangladesh is towing policy aligning itself with its creation partner India! be its cricket or diplomatic norms.
They need to apologize for what the Mukti Bahini did with the Pakistani's and the Bihari's. It would be better that both nations issue simultaneous statements condemning the in-human acts committed in 1971.
