Kidnap: Trader released after family pays Rs3.5m ransom

FAISALABAD:

A man was returned unharmed on Sunday after his family paid Rs3.5 million ransom to his kidnappers, Rail Market police said.

Police said Muhammad Sharif, a textile mill owner, was abducted from Yarn Market on Thursday by some unidentified men on his way home.

They said the kidnappers had demanded Rs25 million.

The family informed the police and registered an abduction complaint.

Police said they were looking for the kidnappers, when they were informed that the family had paid Rs3.5 million to the kidnappers and that Sharif had been released on Canal Road.

They said his hands and feet had been tied and he was abandoned on the road. Police said the kidnappers had threatened to kill Sharif if police were contacted again which was why the family did not inform the police about the negotiation with the kidnappers.

Rail Market station house officer said that police had questioned the family and were looking for the criminals. He said the family had been told to inform the police in case of any usual call received by them.
