LHC moves against auction of land

LHC moved against the auction of a piece of land by the Punjab government.

RAWALPINDI: Lahore High Court moved against the auction of a piece of land by the Punjab government after residents demanded that it be turned into a public park. The tract, more than two acres and located at Fawara Chowk near Raja Bazaar in Rawalpindi, formerly housed the offices of Tehsil Municipal Administration.

The residents of the area had filed a petition against the Government of Punjab in the high court appealing against the auction of the land and demanding that it be allocated for a public park.

According to the petition, the nearby residents, who form about half of the city’s population, lost access to a recreational facility after most of the land at Liaquat Bagh on Murree Road was reutilised by the government to set up a Rescue 15 centre and other government offices.
