The multibillion-dollar deal includes the cost of training, logistical support, parts and associated equipment for the aircraft, said a statement released by the Defense Department’s agency for foreign arms sales.
Notice of the deal was sent to Congress on Thursday, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency said, noting the proposed sale of 20 C-130J-30 Super Hercules planes and five KC-130J aircraft -- an extended-range tanker version of the C-130s -- would sustain Saudi Arabia’s “aging fleet.”
Congress has 30 days to raise objections, otherwise the deal will be concluded.
The statement said the sale would “contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a friendly country that has been, and continues to be, an important force for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East.”
Riyadh has significantly increased its military spending in recent years and in 2010 signed a $60 billion arms deal with Washington, the kingdom’s biggest defense supplier.
And at the end of 2011, the two countries announced the signing of a $30 billion deal to provide Saudi Arabia with 84 new fighter jets, a move the United States said sent a “strong message” to the Gulf region.

@CriticalMass: Saudi Arabia doesn't have any expert pilots to fly most modern US' aircraft and these aircraft shall be the show piece in princes' palaces or Saudi Arabia shall hire US' pilots to fly them because Saudi Arabia has lots of money and Saudi Arabia can afford US' aircraft's pilots easily......
This is happening because now sometimes Saudi Arabia speaks in US' language and talks to the other Islamic countries in US' language and supports,prefers and protects US' interests.... Well done Saudi Arabia.....
And Pakistani Molvis advocating to bouycott American product for Blasphemous movies :)
@Cautious: They share a common enemy "IRAN". You should go listen to the presidential speeches at AIPAC and maybe then you'll understand how much weightage israel has over united states politics. It's amazing how they sell themselves there.
@CriticalMass
The Pakistani MIskeen perhaps!
@Cautious: Logic dictates that to confront an adversary called Iran, backing Saudi makes sense. So Israel or no Israel - you may entitle yourself to your own judgement, with that having no consequence whatsoever on what others percieve .
The recent M&A talks between BAE and EADS was to rescue the European Aviation industry. Saudi Arabia wanted to place this order which would be a major employment and profit source to BAE with inclination of Saudi Arabia's orders. Looking at the situation of Saudi orders with BAE I understand BAE would gladly accept Saudi equity in BAE and possible manufacturing of Saudi Orders in the mainland of Saudi Arabia to open a chapter of aircraft for the GCC regional markets, and the Middle East. An example of China which started manufacturing with aircraft manufacturers, in this manner. Saudi Arabia with very good relations with BAE can be a majority equity hiolder with BAE, for the worlds largest orders placed from Saudi Arabia. Compliments to Ms. Linda Hudson, CEO BAE Systems, Plc. BA's, US subsidiary on the order from Saudi Arabia and consideration of joint manufacturing in Saudi Arabia.
Another major arms deal with the Arabs --- no doubt those who believe that Israel controls the USA will conveniently ignore this.
Do they have anyone to fly these ...
......and they gave Obama the Nobel PEACE prize.
