Pakistani drones are for surveillance only: Naveed Qamar
Federal Minister for Defence Qamar says Pakistani drones do not have the capacity to carry arms.
KARACHI:
Federal Minister for Defence Syed Naveed Qamar on Friday said that Pakistan's drone technology is at its initial stage and has been used only for air surveillance.
In a chat with media during his visit to International Defence Exhibition and Seminar IDEAS-2012 Pakistan in Karachi, the Defence Minister said that these drones do not have the capacity to carry arms, yet. He added that IDEAS-2012 will help create awareness about new trends and technology in defence.
He added that the private sector worldwide was playing a prominent role in defence production activities in Pakistan, which he believes is a valuable engagement for Pakistan since defence production has primarily been restricted to the public sector.
"The government has been extending all possible support and facilitation to our private sector to come up and play a front role in this important national task," Qamar stated.
