ISLAMABAD:

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced rescheduling of by-polls in two national and three provincial assembly constituencies that had fallen vacant due to disqualification of members having dual nationality.

According to an announcement by the commission it has re-fixed the date for by-elections in the constituencies NA-107 Gujrat-IV, NA-162 Sahiwal-III, PP-26 Jhelum-III, PP-92 Gujranwala-II and PP-122 Sialkot-II as December 4, 2012 instead of November 17, 2012 as was announced earlier.

The election authorities cited ‘administrative reasons’ as cause of delay. However sources said that the polls were delayed on the request of Punjab government on pretext of law and order situation.

The ECP has also announced holding by-election in PB-18 Sherani-cum-Zhob (Old Zhob-I) of Provincial Assembly of Balochistan on December 24. This seat has fallen vacant due to death of Abdul Khaliq, Member of the Provincial Assembly.
