End terrorism or lose public support in next elections, Altaf warns govt
Addressing workers at the MQM headquarters via telephone, Hussain said that both federal and provincial governments had failed to implement strategies to end terrorism and protect the lives and property of citizens.
Offering ‘brotherly advice’ to the government, he said that the government should be open in conveying their problems to the people, and that if they could not guarantee an improvement in the situation, should leave the government.
Hussain said that he had alerted the nation about the Taliban infiltrating Karachi and planning operations long ago, but no one paid any heed to his warnings then. But today, the Supreme Court was warning about the presence of Taliban in Karachi.
“I repeatedly appealed to people from all walks of life to secure their areas and form vigilance committees in order to protect themselves, but to no avail," the MQM chief lamented.
“If there was a ‘watchmen system’ setup in every street of Karachi, then not even a single Taliban member could have entered the city.”
In a ominous warning to the people of Karachi, Hussain added, “It is still not too late [to take action] and one should fear the day when terrorists would kidnap your children from your homes and you will be left at their mercy!...hence take measures to secure yourselves right now.”
Talking about the attack on Rangers complex on Thursday, he said that terrorists have carried out suicide attacks earlier as well. He added that had the suicide bomber rammed his explosives laden vehicle into the building instead of a tree, the casualty figure would have been significantly higher.
He advised that law enforcement agencies and concerned authorities should work with the people to end terrorism.

This is a decisive moment for Pakistan. Pakistanis should stand-up and decide whether they want to see a civilized, progressive, and moderate Pakistan or a Pakistan where girls schools are bombed, barber shops are controlled, and artists are hanged. The only thing which is out of order, in this whole scenario, is the minds of those who just want to oppose MQM and Altaf Hussain for no reason. It is well established that the No 1 problem of Pakistan is the terrorism from within the country, and honestly Mr. Altaf Hussain said the right thing that if Federal or Provincial Governments are not capable of safeguarding its own people how come they are staying, they should listen their conscious and resign immediately, if they are not capable enough to take the needful actions.
It is the way gentlemen behave. Things are not as ideal as these should be in the Country and specially in the Karachi. Every now and then the Extremist elements seem to win the battle and our Law Enforcing Agencies specially those Intelligent Agencies, who are suppose to tackle and defuse every evil doings of the extremists, are lagging far behind as far as their professional responsibilities are concerned.
The illiterate fanatics and their supporters know nothing that how the Development, Prosperity and Progress can be made. What all these extremists know are Devastation, Destruction, Hatred and such negatives.
Lets be very clear and focused, we have to monitor the risks of violent extremism taking roots here in Pakistan. We have not much luxury of focusing our efforts on one particular factor. We must protect the Country from terrorism within the Country
We have to fight the war on terror, against an enemy that represents evil-hatred, extremism and stands behind no flag or lawful authority. We need to remember the sacrifices that have gone into protecting our country. We have to work without having sympathies with those who are ruthless and cruel.
there is No doubt the all political parties of Pakistan failed to provide security , safety of Karachiens except MQM, the 2002 to 2007 tenure is the only peaceful tenure in the history of Pakistan. in this tenure MQM proof hwo to control Law & order situation in Karachi. ANP performing dual politics in Pakistan in KPK against Talibanisation for betterment of ANP leadership and in KARACHI supported Talibans for betterment of ANP. because ANP knows original Karachien biggest anti-Talibans and Pakhtons of ANP arn't. I am agreed with Altaf Hussain Bhai, government has miserably failed to provide security in pakistan specially in karachi. why governments can not decide to finish Taliban and Terrorism in pakistan ?? Sorry Altaf BHAI, your supporters failed to convey message 4.5 years ago that you have become part of government as well and being the biggest Karachi party, it's YOUR responsibility to keep peace in the city. I don't know why govt is not taking any action against Taliban and other groups who are working for destabilizing Karachi's peace so when they run their election campaign they can malign MQM and blame MQM for whatever happened in last 5 years.I dont think so they can get anything by doing this dirty politics infact they themselves losing their ground and MQM gaining more popularity so these cheap tactics will be back fired soon :) Karachiites want to see some action against criminals now enough is enough

Yes, government has failed to protect innocent people of Karachi and it's the conspiracy against MQM and Karachi. Powerful machinery doesn't want to see a peaceful Karachi, panicked Karachi can dent vote-bank of MQM and this is the plan. "to dent vote bank of MQM in its castle"
Altaf not only says that if the government failed to curb terrorism, they risk alienating the public in the upcoming elections but also advises the government that they should be open in conveying their problems to the people, and that if they could not guarantee an improvement in the situation, should leave the government.
Hats off to Altaf Bhai. Never supported him earlier but am full of admirations for him now. No other leader has said it so clearly and courageously. Even if he is saath samundar paar, with his bold and clear stand, he deserves saath khoon maaf. What a sharp contrast between him and IK who can only confuse and mislead others.
MQM has consistently warned about the presence of these criminal elements since the last 4 years and has continuously urged the governments to protect Karachi from their menace. Before it is too late, effective steps should be taken for preventing this from spreading further. From a political and social aspect, the spread of this problem in Karachi is to absolutely NOBODY's benefit and is EVERYBODY's loss.
MQM is a coalition partner of PPP government in the Federal Capital as well as in Sindh.
What is the responsibility of MQM in Sindh, more precisely in Karachi when people have given heavy mandate to MQM from Karachi which has now become the center of terrorism?
Instead of asking the Federal Government, MQM have its own Governor in Sindh. What is the responsibility of Governor of Sindh - just to keep silent - and do nothing to maintain the law and order situation.
