Govt's counter-terrorism strategy has failed: Mushahid Hussain

KARACHI: The counter-terrorism strategy of the current government has failed and no measures have been taken to fix the loopholes in the existing policies, said Senator Mushahid Hussain on Thursday.

The General Secretary of Pakistan Muslim League - Quaid (PML-Q), while talking to media at the party's provincial headquarters in Karachi, said the presence of Rangers in Karachi for 17 years has not improved law and order situation in the megalopolis.

"There is a need to strengthen police force and to get rid of nepotism,” stressed the chairman of Senate's standing committee for defence.

He further predicted that under new Chief Election Commissioner Fakhurdin G Ibrahim, the upcoming general election would be fair and transparent.

Mentioning that 17 per cent of country's budget was spent on defence, Hussain said the Senate standing committee for defence will soon recommend strategic policies including counter-terrorism.

Hussain also said that the nation should support its armed forces and that institutions should not be blamed for individuals’ mistakes.

Responding to a question, Hussain lauded the Supreme Court’s verdict in the Asghar Khan case and said that powerful people were exposed.
