Cross-border shelling: One killed, one injured in mortar strikes

Official says Pakistani authorities have lodged a protest with coalition officials across the border.

MIRANSHAH: A woman was killed and a man injured when mortar shells fired by coalition forces from across the border in Afghanistan landed on houses in the Datta Khel tehsil of North Waziristan Agency on Wednesday. A senior security official told The Express Tribune that coalition troops deployed in Afghanistan’s Paktia province fired mortars at Pakistani territory around 11:00am. He added that 19 of those shells landed on several houses in the Kunsar area, woman and injuring a man. The official identified the injured man as Mir Wali and said he shifted to an army hospital in Datta Khel. Doctors later referred him to the Bannu Combined Military Hospital since his condition was critical. The official said Pakistani authorities have lodged a protest with coalition officials across the border.
