The former Islamabad resident editor of The News made the announcement during his show on Tuesday and said that the reason that the show was being discontinued was that the Dunya Group was planning on launching an English language daily.
Malick is also the Group Editor Publications-English at Dunya Group, which also launched an Urdu newspaper in September. He had joined the group in July.
JournalismPakistan.com quoted sources as saying that ratings of Malick’s programme were not growing and that the 8pm slot he was given will likely to go to Sana Bucha, who recently joined Dunya News after quitting Geo.
Bucha had resigned from Geo over differences with the channel’s management.
Bucha had earlier resigned in July this year purportedly in protest of Geo’s rehiring of Dr Aamir Liaquat. She was, however, persuaded to stay back.
Explaining the latest departure, the TV anchor tweeted saying she has left “Geo because of Geo, not for any other channel.”

@Uza Syed: Did you have difficulty comprehending print?
@Uza Syed:
That was a very unkind thing to say.
In experience, knowledge, demeanour, Sana Bucha cannot be a replacement for Mr Malick. Given her years in the media industry, she may be a good actor but not a wise journalist.
A credible journalist being replaced...
Malik is credible unlike Sana, she does not have sense of journalism.
@MAD: As if I care!
@Uza Syed: Oh he isnt being fired. He will be the editor of the new English language daily being launched by the group. Just that his show going off air. He never was a natural host. Expect him to return to the guest slot on prime time shows where he always did a good job.
She was a major critic of duniya TV when Malik Riaz backstage interview goes viral.
I, for one, liked his show - one of the best in the business - for the content and sober approach.
Unfortunately,with all due respect to Sana Bucha, she is neither of the same caliber or the same league. She comes with a lot of personal baggage of bias and fixed views. A good anchor should not have fixed views or show animosity against personalities as she had been doing at Geo.
Let's see if she can shed this baggage - the odds are seriously stacked against this.
Now he will go back to Zong business.
@true pciture: "@Dr. Asad Sadick, Germany: right stand? but for what? higher salary package?"
She offered to quit in July when Amir Liaqat was hired. There were some other senior Geo people who also objected to the hiring of this man who had called Ahmadis Wajib-ul-qatl and directly led to their death. Some assurances were given about the quality of programming this time around. Those assurances were not met. SO this is very much a principled stand that Sana is taking.
Its not a big news. I strongly dislike the way his show was advertised on large signboards installed alongside the roads in major cities. It was a total wastage of time, money which also pollutes the cities' enviroment and beauty. It worry that anchorpersons may now advertise themselves like 'cinema films' on signboards and posters. @All anchorperson. Please limit yourself to the limits of an anchorperson. dont be actors. People know everything now
@Dr. Asad Sadick, Germany: right stand? but for what? higher salary package?
Mr. Malick did well in his show and we must trust him for News Paper. Good luck to him and Dunya Group
I personally believe that it is not our business to snoop into others' business and make it our own for no reason. People come n go, that's how it is with every media group
Sana has taken the right stand. Hats off to her.
Sana Pucha is more exciting.
What will happen to Dunya group if this government goes.
It’s a shame. He did some really good programmes such as on Shia killings.
Not such a big deal and I guess no one is really going to miss him except his wife and the kids and for obvious reasons, money, money, money!
