Vintage collection: Classic car rally leaves for Lahore

Includes a 1957 Willys Jeep, a 1939 Chevrolet and a 1965 Ford Mustang.

Twelve antique cars arrived in Bahawalpur from Karachi on Monday night and left for Lahore on Tuesday, where more antique cars will join the rally.


The cars, part of the Cross Country Rally 2012, will reach its final destination, Peshawar after passing through Islamabad. The rally includes a 1957 Willys Jeep, a 1939 Chevrolet Master Deluxe, a 1965 Ford Mustang, a 1961 MGA and a 1965 Peugeot 404.


Mohsin Ikram, president of the Vintage Classic Car Club of Pakistan, told The Express Tribune that owners of antique cars from across Pakistan were contacted to participate in the rally.

He said expert mechanics had accompanied the rally from Karachi too handle any problem with the cars. Though, he said, the cars were all well maintained and he did not expect any problem.

He said the purpose of the rally was to show the world that Pakistan was safe for travel. He hoped that more cars will join the rally from Multan in the coming days.

Humayun Zia, owner of a 1957  Willys Jeep who has come all the way from Canada to participate in the rally, told The Express Tribune that his family was accompanying him in the rally. He said such events helped project a soft image of Pakistan.
