India claims Pakistan providing safe haven to Dawood Ibrahim: Report

India has claimed that Pakistan continues to provide safe haven to suspected terrorist Dawood Ibrahim, who India has accused of being involved in 1993 serial bomb blasts in Mumbai, reported IANS on Tuesday.

Indian Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, addressing the Interpol general assembly in Rome, said that red corner notices against Ibrahim were still pending.

According to the report, the minister drew a parallel between the 1993 bomb blasts and the 2008 terror strike in Mumbai, and noted that along with the 9/11 mayhem in the US, these attacks underscored the inter-state nature of planning by terrorists and the need for increased global cooperation among intelligence and investigation agencies.

The minister also pointed out that terrorism, by its method and content, rejected democratic and peaceful means of engagement.

“It attacks pluralism and multi-culturalism. Thus for a liberal, democratic and diverse society and country like India, terrorism and terrorist groups pose a challenge, which have to be countered and effectively defeated,” Shinde was quoted as saying.

@Feroz: India, along with the USA, should move the United Nations to declare Pakistan a terrorism-sponsored state. Pakistan's "denial-and-deceit" tactic, of which Washington is long aware and consequently did not inform the Pakistani leaders of their intention to nab OBL in Abbottabad was a brilliant strategic move which paid off in the end. Pakistan is already treated like an international pariah. If Pakistan continued with its deceitful behaviour, it will not only lose what little international goodwill it commands, but also find itself in the company of other pariah nations such as North Korea, Iran, Somalia, Yemen, Syria, etc. Terrorism is the scourge of our times. No nation can afford to tolerate it, let alone actively promote and use it, as Pakistan has done for decades, as a foreign policy tool. India should also use its economic clout by threatening to step up the heat on Pakistan which should immediately dismantle the terrorism network on its soil. Pakistan should also be stopped from its border violations whose frequency is increasing. Firing across the Indo-Pak border by Pakistani army is a ruse to cover the infiltration of terroriststs that are trying to enter India.

Pakistanis should understand that if their country is once branded a sponsor of terrorism, it will face all kinds of sanctions, including denial of travel to Pakistanis to any other country, freezing of its assets in many of the countries bound by U.N. resolution, no banking and financial traffic, etc. etc. The implications will also mean that Pakistan's currency will come under tremendous pressure to devalue. Already, the Pakistani rupee has losts its value in relation to the greenback. The terrorism label will have a snowball reaction on other segments of its economy.
