In an interview with CNN, Khan’s sister, Rehana Haleem said:
“Please convey a message to Malala, that I apologise for what my brother did to her.”
Haleem did not emphasise that Khan had actually carried out the attack, however, she said that the incident “has brought shame on our family. We have lost everything after what he did.”
The suspect’s sister said that what Khan did was “intolerable” and that “Malala is just like my sister.”
She said:
“I'd like to express my concern for Malala on behalf of my whole family; I hope she recovers soon and returns to a happy and normal life as soon as possible. I hope Malala doesn't consider me or my family as enemies. I don't consider Atta Ullah my brother anymore.”
Haleem defined how it was like when security officials raided her house, in order to trace down Khan. She said that the officials searched the entire house and seized their documents and pictures.
She further said that she was moved to a house nearby equipped with bars on the doors and windows along with her husband.
“I was pregnant and sick,” said Haleem. “Then, finally, after a day or two, they released me and my husband and told me they were letting me go only because I was sick.”
While saying that she had little doubt about her brother’s involvement in the shooting, she said that if he was innocent, he would have come back and claimed so. “He would have come to the aid of his mother and our family, his behavior is that of a guilty man. How could he abandon us?”
The police had identified Khan, a 23-year-old man from the Swat district, as the primary suspect.

@Thor: What this country is witnessing today is just because of extreme attitudes which owe a lot to illiteracy and ill education. An individual's act should not avenged upon relations. Let's learn to live like nice human-beings, and for that very purpose we need to come out of that feudal bent of mind.
Beside this all development. Malal has became a world biggest name . My qestion is why not Afia Siddiqi , why not all other Malalas those are being killed by US drawn Attaks, why only this girl is so much promoted by all the world. what is the interest of US Govement. well Mslims should think and see the another part of the coin.
@gp65: I am sorry still don't see your point. I agree, the brother is, no doubt, a murderer (and should be hanged); but what is wrong with the sister's apology? She never asked for forgiveness for her brother. Actually, by apologizing, she only showed her disdain for his behaviour. I don't see how her apology can be construed to be designed to gain sympathy for the killer by showing him as a family man rather than being taken on its face value?
@gp65: To fight a dark ideology which is run by a savy propaganda machine you have to light the candle of truth. You have to deal with the propaganda and think in terms of de radicalising through rehabilitation centres such young people which Pak Army is running at least in Swat. It is similar to rehabilitating a drug addict or an alcoholic. These people have been fed with conspiracy theories and a twisted ideology of saving the world . But they are not super men they need help and rehabilitation see link below

@qzj00: "Your example does not make sense in the situation at hand. It is not the culprit who is saying sorry. It is the sister who is saying sorry. What is wrong with that? Or, should we hang the sister just because her brother is an idiot?"
When did I imply that the sister should be punished in any way - let alone be hanged? My point was that this attempt to gain sympathy for the killer by showing him as a family man with a caring sister etc is not in good taste. The brother needs tobe hanged - the sister's apologies notwithstanding.
@gp65:
Your example does not make sense in the situation at hand. It is not the culprit who is saying sorry. It is the sister who is saying sorry. What is wrong with that? Or, should we hang the sister just because her brother is an idiot?
SO to paraphrase, the sister is saying " My brother shot you...sorry!" SImilar to how I might tell my cousin when I was a kid " IAte your share of mithai...sorry". Now the other person is merciless if they cannot forgive the cute little cousin saying sorry. Seriously - sorry just does not cut it when you shoot someone point blank range in their head.
How stupid. What use is her apology when the damage is already done? Does this stupid woman even know how dangerous a bullet to the head is? --- brain damage can destroy a person's life. keep your apology to yourself.
This is crazy why sister nad brotheri n law were arrested for the act of a brother. Pakistan no doubt is a failed state and banana republic
Drama or not, can anyone deny that there are some not so pious people who want to impose their brand of Islam in Pakistan only for their own personal benefit and not for the glory of Islam. Do Muslims really need corrupt people to impose Islamic law for them to practice their religion? the only people living in bubbles are the ones who can't see the problem, only conspiracies...
@Omer: I stand by Malala and find the ideology of the TTP reprehensible. Would like to add here :
Islam through Hadith gives guidance on governance including on how to coexist with other non Muslims. But it does not allow alternative sources of state power. The Taliban are non state actors who state that apostates ( mur tad ) have to be killed whereas (monafique) it is good practise to kill.
Can the state allow this twisted ideology to exist and be practised against its own citizens and against our neighbours including Afghanistan, Iran, China and India. Now this is not fundamentalist Islam but hiding the truth about Islam and in fact blaspheming against our beloved Prophet pbuh, may I suggest this is obscurantism ( falsifying the truth ).
I am against war to, I believe light the candle when you fight darkness. But then if the obscurantists blow out the candle and think they have a monopoly on violence and the state should be prevented from protecting its citizens, then I am afraid at some stage you will have to unsheath your sword.
But agreed you have to first take the moral high ground to show this ideology is twisted wrong and not according to a great religion.
Let the record show Imran Khan , Raja Rental, Shabaz Sharif , Gen Kayani , MQM were all at her hospital bed. JUI and JI were apologists at best for shooting a 14 year old girl who just wanted to go to school and worst they represented this sick ideology which I may add has nothing to do with Islam.
@Hmmm why is cnn showing every development on Malala's case? what interest does it have? what does Madona had to do with Malala?
The lady deserves same respect and admiration as extended to Malal.
@Amitabh Bachchan: @parveen: @Azeem Aslam: @UXMAAN: @Wingo: If this is a drama please get the people who have taken credit for it to deny see link below

Are the Taliban going to kill this woman too as she is apologizing?
Big Drama... Although Talibans can be expected to domall these things but this was a drama.
The question is was she really shot in the head or shot at all ? The pics tell a different story.
Series of Drama
Dear WebDesk Admin,
Dozens of innocent people get killed in Karachi , Balochistan and FATA (Drone strikes).....and still you are beating stupid drums on this dead story...... It is a shame how we feel about this...It is not that I am in favor of attack on Malala.....but the thing is dont make fuzz about it while hundreds suffer .......
Regards, Omar
Hopefully someone will update Mullah Fazal-ur-Rehman with this news who yesterday was calling the incident Drama. Shame Shame Shame.
Rehana issuing an apology to Malala and her family disowning her brother needs to be appreciated as many families would think twice before sending their sons for jihad which only leads to ruining of families including their dear ones.
Plotted..
Its too late for apologies, the damage has already been done, not only to Malala, but to the whole nation.
seems that the family have been through lot of torture. thatswhy this apology. otherwise there is nothing to apologise for. i feel for the brothers family, not malalas family.
Shame on Gov for arresting a woman who had no connection with the alleged crime of his brother
The fiancee was detained but the sister is free? ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Mr Interior Ministers kingdom.
@Wingo: People like you really need to grow up. Until these guys come and whip your mothers/sisters for even stepping out of their homes, you'll keep living in an imaginary world...
“has brought shame on our family. We have lost everything after what he did.” But you weren't sorry until you got the bad reaction.
The suspect’s sister said that what Khan did was “intolerable” and that “Malala is just like my sister.” lets have malala brother shoot her. tit for tat. Sorry for what, its not he burned his english book.he shot her!!!
beginning of new drama.....
Why is it that CNN is becoming the primary source of News emanating from Pakistan? Is Pakistani media only confined to yapping on talk shows??
Like that they dont like women giving interviews but when it comes for defending his sister is saying sorry
Not ok at all, he should get Death Sentence if he is the one who shot Malala .
Nope, hang her
I don’t consider Atta Ullah my brother anymore.” Strong words from a sister.
obviously up to malala to forgive or not.
