The 2nd Asia Kabaddi Cup final ended in anti-climax when Pakistan won its maiden continental title 40-31 after India forfeited in protest at the crowded Punjab Stadium in Lahore.
Pakistan was ahead 39-31 with just 10 minutes remaining, when an Indian raider came for his second continuous attack. This led to an argument after a point was awarded to Pakistan, as according to the rules a raider can only attack once.
The argument forced team officials to step in to keep players from both sides away from each other, while they sorted out the issue. Indian players, however, refused to continue playing, as by that time they had virtually lost all chances to make a comeback.
Pakistan coach Tahir Waheed was ecstatic about the win, but said the final should not have ended in such a manner.
“It’s a great win for us because we always had the upper hand against a better side, thanks to the support we got from the crowd,” Waheed told The Express Tribune.
“We were winning when the argument started and would have achieved [apparent] victory had the Indian team accepted its mistake. Even Indian officials knew their players were technically wrong.”
Waheed said that the World and Asian Kabaddi Federation should come up with strict regulations to ensure that all rules are followed.
He praised the performance of Lala Obaidullah, saying he was a major factor in the triumph.
“Lala always held the key for us and thankfully he performed up to expectations, while the rest of the team also proved their mettle in a crunch situation. We’ve taken revenge against India for our last Asia Cup loss.”
Pakistan received Rs1.5m as the winning prize, while India pocketed Rs1m for being the runner-up. The third spot was grabbed by Iran.

India and Pakistan have some unbeatable players. very goog quality of kabaddi match to see. I forget my all tension. It is a real our land/home soil game . It is not an imported game
Both teams are equal good. Pakistan win by few points. It was real win. India should complete the match. Pakistan was defeated in world cup with dignity, during that some unfare points awarded to India. I am looking all matches of kabaddi carefully. It was a high quality kabaddi match and a good practice for both team. it is healthy game. I feel happy and energetic by looking this type of kabaddi match. both teams are stronger inthe world. Why indians show the behavior like this? They will realise latter.
Kabaddi is in my blood. My father was a big player, and his leg broken during the game. My mother stopped me to dont play and repeat the history. Pakistan have some unbeatable players . Both teams are equal . I never expect that indians will do in this way . Pakistan was defeated in world cup with dignity. It is a game win and defeat is always there.
@indian: fake victory??? ur the only one over here calling it a fake victory!! there are several indians above who congratulated pakistan and agreed that india shudve finished the game. that is called sportsmanship!!
india also play well but losing with bravery is better then leaving the ground
both team play very well.but Pak win.India has to show a sport sprit.its a game and some one must win.it may be any one.so winer is winer.we was not accepting that indian player will leave the ground.a sport man never do this.kabaddi authorities has to take action agains the players and koaches because they are degrating their countery.Long Live Pakistan. Pakistan zindabad
@indian: Grapes our sour, really sour!
@Pakistanii: celebrate a fake victory??? ok go on!!!!!!!!!! who cares?? all u celebrate is fake victories and stupid records being created......
Pakistan Zinda Bad
in all this tussle, we forgot to notice! it was like Indian Punjab against Pakistani Punjab teams! and both of them beaten every other team! Hail Punjab! well done to Pakistan, India was previous champion. They should have played the last few minutes in spirit of the game though!
Well Played Guys !!!! Thank you Very Much....
Well played Pakistan Kabbadi team. Congratulations all the players.....
@terrorist: why in the world would u put ur name as 'terrorist'?? shame on ET for allowing comments by these kind of people. and what bilal is saying is true, india knew they were going to lose so they just saw the one-point penalty as an excuse to protest. @indian: please get out and let us celebrate!
Let me quote from the rules: No player can take two consecutive raids (one after the other). There will be minimum of one raid gap in between
But, I still wish this had not happened. It was a wonderful tournament and an intense final. Both teams played their hearts out. I hope this exchange of teams continues.
if the reported incident is factually correct then i must say a very poor show by the players of my county.....sometimes losing with dignity is better then such behavior...Indian kabaddi federation should look into the matter, penalize the culprits who have brought shame to country, not by losing but by their shameful behavior and ensure that such buffoonery is not repeated in future.... and hearty congrats to Pakistani team....of late they seem to have mastered the game, whose monopoly was held by India for long....
india should have completed the game .., this is not inline with the spirit of the game...anyway congrats paks...
Indian disobey their rules. Indians cant accept their loss. Indians have old history to show their back when they are loosing.
They win cricket ,we win kabaddi... proves difference of class.
Pakistan coach Tahir Waheed was ecstatic about the win, but said the final should not have ended in such a manner. I liked it.
moreover, it was based on rules, so, Congrats Pak Team!
Pakistan............... Bravo!!!!! India...better luck next time:)
No, Pakistanis did not cheat. It was likely a misunderstanding as before the raider was sent India must have thought the referee would say so if he wasn't allowed, not let it happen then penalize a point. But anyway, congrats to Pakistan for being the better side on this day, they won fair and square. Next time we will get you, my brothers!
From an Indian Punjabi
@Indian K thanks bye!
Clearly India was wrong according to the rules... Anyways good game from both sides
@Bilal: according to you what is that? opening big mouth?
@Indian: "an Indian raider came for his second continuous attack. This led to an argument after a point was awarded to Pakistan, as according to the rules a raider can only attack once."'
Please comment based on reality!!
And by forfeit for what looked imminent where did Indian sport man spirit went ?
@indian: lolz. come on accept that you lost to us. whole world saw the match and yeah technically you can't send a raider twice in same turn. I guess no other Indian raider wanted to come as they were smashed to ground by our players. It was a full house and noise was exceptional. Finally Pakistanis are willing to watching something other than cricket.
its clear that pakistan cheated.............not a fair game!!!!!!!!!!!
ComeOn India show soem sports spirit. but yeah thanks for coming !!!
