Pakistan wins Asia Kabaddi Cup

Pakistan was leading 40-31 against India, before the visitors forfeited.

LAHORE:
Pakistan defeated India in the Asia Kabaddi Cup final match, in rather dramatic fashion, played at the Iqbal Stadium on Monday.

Pakistan were ahead, leading 40-31 with just 10 minutes remaining when an Indian raider came for his second consecutive attack which snowballed into an argument after a point was awarded to Pakistan.

According to the rules, a raider can only attack once and then a different raider has to come.

The argument forced team officials to step in to avoid confrontation between the players. However, the Indian team refused to continue to play.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Pakistan team coach Tahir Waheed said that although he was ecstatic with the win but felt that the final should not have ended in such manner.

The Pakistani coach added that the World and Asian Kabaddi Federation should come up with a strict policy to ensure that rules are followed, given they were not implemented thoroughly in the game.

Waheed particularly lauded Lala Obaidullah’s performance, saying that he played a major role in the triumph.

Pakistan received the winner’s cheque of Rs1.5million while India pocketed Rs1million as first runners-up. The third spot was grabbed by Iran.
