PESHAWAR: Seven policemen and a 12-year-old boy were injured when a medium-intensity remote-controlled bomb went off near a check post in Jala Bela village on the outskirt of the city on Sunday evening.

The three kilogramme (kg) device attached to a bicycle was targeting a police check post in the area, a police official confirmed, adding that the bicycle was parked near the Sajid Iqbal Shaheed check post of the Daudzai police.

“Four of the injured policemen, Saeed, Ali Mast, Fakhar-e-Alam and Shah Jehan, are community police constables, while the other three Asif, Hazrat Muhammad and Sharif are regular police personnel,” said SHO Amir Sultan. He added that the name of the minor is not confirmed.

All the injured men were shifted to a hospital in Charsadda where their condition was stated to be stable.

The explosion not only destroyed the checkpost, it also caused considerable damage to a mosque and nearby shop.

“There is similarity between the explosives used in Saturday’s shrine blast and today’s (Sunday’s) attack. Both were homemade and concealed in a cooking oil tin,” said bomb disposal squad official Abdul Haq while talking to The Express Tribune.

On Saturday evening, a three kg homemade bomb exploded at the Phandu Baba shrine. No casualties were reported as the shrine was deserted when the explosives went off. According to the police, the blast was aimed only to create fear and panic among people.
