Transitions: Muhammad Ali Mohmand laid to rest
MPA was a Qaumi Watan Party leader from Charsadda.
SHABQADAR:
MPA Muhammad Ali Mohmand of the Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) died on Friday after a protracted illness. He was 55.
The deceased was elected from PK 22 Charsadda in 2008 on a Pakistan Peoples Party Sherpao seat. The party was recently renamed to QWP.
Earlier, he served as the provincial joint secretary of the Awami National Party (ANP) and was considered a close aide of ANP chief Asfandyar Wali Khan.
He resigned from the ANP over differences with the party chief, who told him to quit over removing his step mother Nasim Wali Khan as the ANP head before the last elections. Mohmand had sided with Nasim Wali in the internal dispute.
Mohmand had contested polls from the same constituency in 2002 on an ANP ticket, but he lost the election.
He was targeted in a suicide attack in March 2011 in the Kangra area of Shabqadar. Mohmand suffered serious injuries in that accident and had never fully recovered since.
His father Haji Dilawar Khan was also an MPA during Ziaul Haq’s tenure and a senator in Nawaz Sharif’s second tenure.
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Kiramat Khan, QWP Chief Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao among other politicians attended his funeral.
