U-turn on Kashmir

Letter September 03, 2010
The consequences of the U-turn on our Kashmir policy have been more damaging than any other event.

KARACHI: This is with reference to report in your newspaper "Fresh violence erupts in Kashmir" (August 31). The consequences of the U-turn on our Kashmir policy have been more damaging than any other event in our recent history. India shifted the military balance by making our western borders as insecure as we made the LoC for them in the past. Today it bleeds and hurts us in Balochistan in the same way as we bled and hurt it in Kashmir. Indian security forces have imposed a curfew and killed over 70 people in Kashmir while the world sits quiet.

Kashmiris were dying then, they are dying now. We were seen as a state sponsoring terrorism then and we are no better now. All we did was hand over advantage to India, which now holds the bull of Kashmir with its horns.
