Speaking to media during a press conference with Dr Dave Rosser, Ziauddin Yousufzai said Malala’s survival is a miracle for them.
“There was a time when I told my brother-in-law to prepare for her funeral,” he said.
Malala was attacked by Taliban gunmen in Swat when she was on her way home from school. She was shifted to the UK for her treatment.
Narrating the entire episode to the media personnel, Malala’s father said that his daughter was attacked by “agents of Satan”. He added that soon after the incident, he realised he was surrounded by angels as help poured in from numerous quarters.
Calling the attack a turning point for Pakistan, Ziauddin said that the attack did make “Malala fall, but when she fell, the entire Pakistan rose.”
“Malala is down temporarily, she will rise again,” he added.
Medical treatment
Appreciating the high quality treatment provided to his daughter at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Ziauddin said “Malala got the right treatment, in right place, at the right time.”
Responding to a query why he did not accompany his daughter to the UK, Zaiuddin said he knew Malala was in safe hands. “I was satisfied with the arrangements; we were constantly updated on her progress,” he said.
Thanking Rosser for his contribution in treating Malala, Ziauddin said back in Pakistan, he and his family would wait for his press conference. “We would wait for him to appear on TV and speak about Malala’s condition, he was a source of satisfaction for us and others in Pakistan,” he said.
Father, daughter relationship
Talking about his influence on Malala, Ziauddin said his daughter became an activist at an early age because she has seen him being one.
“My daughter is my companion, we are good friends. She corrects me at times and tells me how to do certain things,” he said.
Sharing the speculated stories he had heard in Pakistan about his daughter’s health, Ziauddin said he is glad he is with her now.
Thanking authorities
Ziauddin appreciated the support extended towards Malala by political leaders, civil society and the international community.
He thanked President Asif Ali Zardari for taking keen interest in his daughter and making all the government resources available to her.
“President Zardari had gone through great tragedies in life himself, his wife was assassinated in Pakistan,” he said.
Speaking about the medical care Malala received in Pakistan, Ziauddin thanked Army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani as he had instructed authorities to provide his daughter with good care.
The activist’s father also thanked the UAE government, Pakistani media and the UK government for their role in providing relief to Malala and supporting her cause.

It seems quiet ironic and secularistic, Malala's father; although being a Pakhtun, has thanked almost everyone, except Allah...which just might turn out to be 'the-turning-point-litmus-test' for The Islamic Republic, and history...
I saw the press conference of this little Angel's father. Her father thanked all including non-Muslims for the prayers and efforts rendered in the recovery of this Miracle Child. This is called humanity which all should understand beyond any religion, color, creed or beliefs. He said so much which moved all who saw him speaking. I would request that she must not return back unless fully recovered no matter if it even takes years. Here I would also condemn those political/religious leaders who though also condemned this barbaric act but with lot of ifs and buts. Her father was right when he said that this criminal act was from the Agents Of Satan. God Bless You Malala.
Malala is an inspirational girl and activist.God has definitely saved her on a purpose.I really see the future of pakistan rests with Malala. May god bless her.Get well soon Malala...
Look at her eyes...... ;-(
And of course you have the conspiracy theorists crying about this also being a made up news. Instead of smelling something fishy, perhaps you need to wake up and smell the coffee.
@Raj - USA: Fully agree with your comments. I was most surprised to read her father's comments of her returning back to Pakistan soon and appearing for her exams. She looks traumatized at the moment after suffering such a grave injury and needs complete rest for couple of months and even more in UK itself. Malala should not be coerced by her father to go back to Pakistan in a hurry who appears to be more inclined to gain popularity rather than show concern for her daughter's health and safety. The barbarians who have vowed to kill her will not think twice before making another attempt on her life since she has become the biggest enemy of Taleban who dared to confront them and also having suffered loss of support from their sympathisers.
I pray for you, Malala, for your healthy recovery, and passing your examination. Blessings for you and your family.
really? was it a bullet in the head? n are the pictures latest?
We love you Beti! We are proud of you. May God give you a Very Long Life with Lots of Happiness.
She is only 14. She is daughter of our nation. We should all unite against these extremists and root them out of our country. I envision Pakistan as a thriving country like Malaysia.
I bet she will top the final exams.
Malala do what you want to and have to do, knowing that you are doing the right thing.
No sign of head surgery which took 5 hours to remove the bullet from the head. Its a miracle.
Was she really shot in the head ? How can she sit in Exam let alone survive 2 shots in the head and recover so soon. I smell something here !!!
I am deeply moved to see her photograph as she is looking a bit dazed having gone through such a trauma at such a tender age. Pray for early recovery for the most brave person from Pakistan and hope she will get her smile back.
@Otherside simple ,it was on the other-side....
@reality: "Malala is a Pashtana Yousufzai. I am also a Yousufzai, I know where her strength comes from."
What are the Taliban? Do you understand where their barbarism comes from?
Mr. Ziauddin Yousafzai...Your are Father of a Brave Muslim Girl, who did not care for her life and looked in the eyes of Enemies of Pakistan, just like Shaheed Benazir Bhutto... All Pakistanis are with you..Allah will help you...
@Otherside: She has her head covered by dupatta, I am sure you can see that! Her head is obviously not visible! only the face is. Easy to say things using your keyboard, face what she and her family have and you will perhaps have some decency to not say such things.
Please dont go back to Pakistan. Stay safe and get educated in UK, you have made your point.
@Otherside: It wasn't in the forehard or she'd be dead, genius.
where was she shot? no wound of headshot from point blank distance...
Malala is a Pashtana Yousufzai. I am also a Yousufzai, I know where her strength comes from.
Allah(SWT) destroy Malala's attackers and all those who doubt her character or the tribulations she has been through.
Wow thats speedy recovery...too speedy in fact. But still she is a brave girl and may god bless her
Only a great man like him,can bring up such a brave and extraordinary girl......Congrats to whole family for Malala's New life....
Molvies are the spear heads of Talibans. Stop following them otherwise you are doomed. Do not let you beautiful religion be hijacked by the illiterates. Do not allow an intermediary between yourself and Allah the Almighty. When Allah the Almighty has privileged you to approach him directly, why do you need a middleman and an interlocutor? If you support Taliban or molvies, you will kill the little Malala who resides in your house..
Bravo Malala...! Salute for your courage. get well soon and stay there for some years and get quality education, must return back to Pakistan and serve your nation.People like you are the future of our Country.
The only one smiling in that picture is the Dad - he's probably the only one who wants to go back to Pakistan.
Innocent children shouldn't be encouraged to become the foot soldiers in the battle against their own exploitation. The story of Malala Yousufzai should be seen as both an inspiration and a warning.
Get well soon & stay there to get better education to serve your nation later.
I have very mixed feelings about Malala's return to Pakistan. Yes, she would continue her exemplary and noble work courageously in Pakistan. But again, she is just a 14 year old child who has seen death so close. Some fear is natural. Why put her in more mental trauma? I would prefer she stays in UK for one or two years and then returns to Pakistan. Hopefully by then the terrorists would have been wiped out from Pakistan. She may also need further medical care in UK to recover fully.
@Qaisrani: Pukhtoons are such a gem to Pakistani nation. Why this discrimination!.Doesn't sound good.
Lets pray for Mala's health. She is an inspiration to evry girl who wants a modern education. Unfortunately Mal's sacrifice is going to go futile as no action is going to be taken against the perpetraters hiding in fata and afghanistan.
We all kmow these people from certain part of our country and neihhbouring country will never let our country to be educated.
Long live Malala and his father.Pukhtoons are such a gem to Pakistani nation. We are proud of them.Malala will bring lot of successes for Pakistan in future including Nobel Peace Prize. We are proud of her.her return will be nightmare for barbarians.
Great Malala Great Father..................geo Malala
Malala i wish you and your family best of luck and best of thanks to all medical staff for giving her the best treatment.
Pakistanis have nerves of steel. Bravo to Malala and all Pakistani girls.
