The petitioner who raised this issue in the LHC had claimed that the federal government had unconstitutionally and without notifying any competent commission, levied this tax through an executive order.
Justice Aijazul Hasan ordered for stopping implementation on this notification and issued notices to the federal government and all concerned authorities for written statements to be presented on November 5.
The government’s decision to impose a hefty tax on incoming telephone calls from overseas had caused a heated debate in the upper house of parliament with senators belonging to both sides of the aisle categorically rejecting the tax as a burden on overseas Pakistanis.

They decision will be made on November 14. Either Tax will be rejected or it will remain forever.
If Respectable LHC rejected tax on international calls, then why we are still paying? till when we are able to get the last rates.
i also want to know @Asim Bashir:
It is still not implemented from which date it will be applicable
Please can somebody tell me what happened today because today they were suppose to remove tax on overseas calls.
im sure it wont take 6months @Caller:
The conspiracy theorists say that it is one more way for the present rulers to wean away web users, just pressuring Google is not enough. Ignorance can be bliss. . Perhaps, it is the mean people who come up with such ideas.
The tax is there. All websites have now increased their calling rates.
Google Voice was $0.05 per min - Now it is $0.13 per min. Localphone was $0.02 per min - Now it is $0.12 per min. VoipAlot was $0.03 per min - Now it is $0.08 per min.
Vonage has no Unlimited Pakistan calling anymore.
This is absolutely rubbish. Not only should the court remove this robbery tax, they should put a VERY heavy fine on the government to even implement this.
I think it will take alteast 6 months to one year for things to come back down.
When are the calling rates going back to normal,,,???
Tax is still there. when it will be reduced... :(
Thanks everyone who stand again this decision
no implementation
No implementation on LHC Decision
but it is still not implemented from which date it will be applicable
Now this feels like a decision 'for' the people, makes me happy. But sadly, a rare occurence in today's Pakistan.
Yes, thank LHC, but don't be dumb and vote PPP or PML-N or ANP or MQM in the next elections. Every party that is in the coalition is to be blamed for the mess Pakistan is in, there is no innocent party currently in government.
i thank to LHC who cancelled this notification,,,
Asalamoalaikum I realy thanks for the Person who raised issue in LHC, And really bundle of thanks of LHC. where taken an action for reverse such a dicision.
How about taxing overseas income/account? According to the regulations of almost all European countries, any income stashed away anywhere has to be declared and taxed. Democracy you know.
@Hanan...... AT is correct, Call charges for Pakistan are already increased by govt. of Pakistan... and telecommunication companies have increased their calling rate for Pakistan as well. Enoy your obliviousness from reality.
@hanan This tax implemented a month ago!
abhi tak to implement nahin hua. Call rates waisay he hain jaisay huye thay.
Thank you LHC
An excellent decision by LHC.
Imran Khan, Judiciary and mainstream Media in Pakistan are clean and great Even better than other Asian Countries.
