Attock Refinery, Hyundai enter into contract

Deal includes upgrade of refining units, power generation capability.

KARACHI:


Attock Refinery (ARL) and Hyundai Engineering Company, Korea agreed to enter into a contract on engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) basis for the execution of the ARL up-gradation project, according to a notice sent to the Karachi Stock Exchange on Wednesday.


The agreement includes the establishment of a preflash unit for ARL refinery, which will help to enhance refining capacity by 10,400 barrels per day of oil, a naphtha isomerisation unit to increase production of premium motor gasoline by 20,000 tons per month. Hyundai will also build a diesel hydroclesulphurisation unit, which aims to reduce sulphur contents in high speed diesel.

The deal also includes the expansion of the existing captive power plants by 18 megawatts. The execution of DHDS unit along with related expansion of captive power plant was optional depending on ARL’s sole decision subject to resolution of issues pertaining to incentives with the government.
